The spray stuff from coppertone is great! just used it this past week...No white stuff, mildly greasy (not bad), and barely visible, if at all.

Stick with the lower SPF protection formulas.

Unless you will be in the sun for a LOOONG time, then you don't need a super-high SPF forumula. For example, if you will only be outside for 2 hours, an SPF 8 is perfect -- that still gives you 8 times the protection of unprotected skin.
With a lower SPF, simply re-apply more often.

Lower SPF products usually are not white. Some are even tanning OILS instead of lotions. This should reduce the amount of white film on your face.

As for shiny -- all products will leave your skin shiny. But to minize that, apply the product a half-hour or more before you go outside to allow it to dry somewhat. Of course, once you start to perspire, you will have shiny skin again ;)
