That is a must. You do not want the junk yard to have your license plates or registration. They can be sold on the black market. The junk yard will keep any V.I. N plates that are on the car or engine.

In some states the plates go with the car and in other states they have to be turned back into the DMV. Yet other states let you reregister them to another vehicle.

yes your registration is in your name you can keep them you never sell your vehicle with your plates on it the new owner has to recieve thier own registration

That depends upon state law. In some states, the tags stay with the vehicle. In others, they stay with the owner. Check with your state DMV for your state's procedures. I know from experience that in MA and MO, they stay with the owner but in TX they stay with the car.
