Oh man, I love your name! I read this question at work, and everyone looked at me funny when I busted out laughing.

As for your question, people think that about Kentucky because no one of any great intellectual note has ever come from Kentucky. Kentucky is about horse racing and rednecks, not education and higher learning. You wouldn't associate Kentucky with something like, say, theoretical physics.

Kentucky also has a reputation for inbreeding. I don't know why that is, except maybe because of a population of slightly blue-skinned people that have all interbred over generations, the so-called Blue Fugates.
