My yellow lab is friendly and playful during the day but when dusk comes he acts like he sees ghosts! He is only three years old and I am about ready to take him to a vet because of his behavior.

My yellow lab is friendly and playful during the day but when dusk comes he acts like he sees ghosts! He is only three years old and I am about ready to take him to a vet because of his behavior. He has never been abused and I have had him since he was a puppy.

Was this dog previously owned by another owner who has abused him possibly.
Older dogs do get senile as they age.
Dogs with poor eyesight tend to be more spooked in darker situations. Take him to the vet for peace of mind.

My 14 year old dog just started staying up all night, panting and breathing heavy, drinking water and wanting to eat ...we have tried keeping him awake all day ...thinking his schedule was off - but he still reacted the same ...someone mentioned it might be SUNDOWN DEMENTIA, if so what can we do?
We are getting no sleep and go to work exhausted ...we need help. We eBen tried Melintone pills to help him sleep but nothing works, thank you for trying to help, kathy

this is a question for doctor vet. never heard of this but perhaps the dog associates darkness with something unpleasant. good question though. interesting
