Every year there are thousands upon thousands of law-abiding Americans (and non-Americans) who submit to polygraph tests. And every year an estimated *400,000 people are falsely accused based upon their polygraph chart. (*U.S. Senate testimony, 1988)

How would you like to be convicted of lying when, in fact, you were telling the truth? This happens all the time to people who are ill-prepared to take a polygraph exam.

Many federal, state, and local employment positions require that you submit to this interrogation. People who are applying for law enforcement positions are the number one candidates for these exams.

The polygraph machine is not a lie detector. In fact, many truthful people who have taken the polygraph examination have been branded liars. Several credible studies have determined that the accuracy of polygraph exams is around 50%, no better than flipping a coin!

The polygraph examination that you will be taking may be the most important examination of your life. Why would you not prepare for it?

What is a Polygraph?
excerpts from the intro to our manual...

A polygraph is simply a simultaneous recording of your in-and-out breathing, sweat, blood pressure and heartbeat.

It is mind-boggling to think that, supposedly from these readings, a polygraph examiner claims he can determine if a person is lying or telling the truth!

Polygraph evidence is generally inadmissible in court because, as Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas noted in his majority opinion in the 1998 case U.S. v. Scheffer, "there is simply no consensus that polygraph evidence is reliable."

It is widely believed by the majority of polygraph examiners that the emotional stress of lying causes uncontrollable physical changes that are easily picked up by the polygraph machine.

Amazingly, none of these examiners believe that stress, fear, anger or any other emotion can cause the polygraph machine to produce a false reading that is damaging to the person being tested. But, it stands to reason that people subjected to polygraph examinations can be filled with stress, fear and anger even if everything they say is truthful!

Fortunately, our Pass a Polygraph manual will teach you to control your emotions. In fact, anyone and everyone can learn the proper techniques to easily control their bodily reactions and beat this ‘bogus science’.

The questions asked during a polygraph test for police officer candidates are not the same from every agency, and they are usually not the same for every person. They usually ask you questions to get an idea if you are a thief, drug user, or if you have committed any serious crimes. If there are any areas of concern on your application, they will probably ask you questions about these areas. If you have to take a polygraph test, just try to relax, and be honest. That is the best things you can do.

Polygraph tests are not admissable in court in most states. To find out about yours just type it in your browser and go from there. A test can be fooled into being inconclusive. When the tester starts they do a dry run of questions and you give them the answers. So you already know what they are going to ask. They will switch the order, and ask a couple of times if the reading is questionable to them. If you have something to hide try this: As soon as the first question is asked try to control your breathing. You most likely will not be able to. This will send a inconsistant reading. Then flex your leg muscles, tighten and relax your stomach muscles while they are asking questions. Just make sure you are not doing this when you answer the question or your voice will tell on you.

But I really do not recomend trying to fool the police.

Just be yourself. If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about.

I worked for a jewelry company and have taken over 20 tests.

Best to treat him to a few big glasses of brandy just before he goes in for the test, to calm his nerves.
