I have included a URL to a Information Pamphlet "Am I an Addict" published by Narcotics Anonymous, a recovery group for addicts.

It sounds like you may be addicted. If you want to stop without medical help, maybe it would help to talk to your husband about it, lay it out in the open. Just because you may be addicted doesn't make you a bad person and you shouldn't be ashamed of it, just take the steps you need to stop it as quickly as possible.

Also, it may help if you follow the links that other people have given you on here. I don't particularly know of good medical links, but, you could do a search and find some info that might help you too.

Are you taking them even if you are NOT in pain? First of all if your prescription ran out, and you did not go to the doctor (for a refill) this tells me you knew the doctor would say no because you were out of pain. Which means, yes, you were seeking them out because you craved them, and that is addiction. I suggest you contact the doctor that prescribed you the pills, and see about getting in touch with NA Narcotic Anonymous. There is no shame in getting help, just get it now

talk to a dr. and ask for help. You are addicted physically, and it will only get worse.

At least you can addmit that this may be a problem, that is a big step to deciding you need some help.
