What have you found that helps soothe TMJ "flare-ups"?

Dizzie great answer. I too have TMJ and I started going to physical therapy for it. It's great! They show you some good stretches for your neck and back and then you can do them at home. I also usually take an Ibuprofen every now and then or even an Aleve. Try to relax and massage your jaw and mouth area. That seems to help me too.

Sorry, you might have to give up certain foods that cause flare ups! I cut up everything and eat soft foods on the bad days. No gum! That is a bad one for me. Motrin does ok job. When bad I have to take a prescribed med.

i started doing neck pain therapy and it relieved alot of the tmj i experienced too. i thought that it was so cool.. fix two things with one exercise..place hand on crown of head, you should be looking straight down toward your breast..it pulls the muscles in your neck and loosens your shoulders too. i don't know why it worked on tmj, but it did.

the best thing i have found is heat/ice pads and heavy intake of advil.
