Metastasis is what cancer does when it spreads from the organ of origin to another - like when breast cancer spreads to the lungs the breast cancer cells multiply and form a tumor or lump in the lung - it is still breast cancer even if it is in the lung - or when lung cancer spreads to the brain the lung cancer cells form a clump of cells making a tumor in the brain - and it is still lung cancer and not brain cancer. It is important to identify the cancer of origin - ie breast cancer or lung cancer - because they are often treated based on the source and not the current location.

Metastasis is a complex series of steps in which cancer cells leave the original tumor site and migrate to other parts of the body via the bloodstream or lymph system.

metastasis means travel. It is a cancer that travels to other parts of the body. Like if you were diagnosed with lung cancer, it could metastisize to the bones.

Metastasis occurs when cancer is not limited to one organ or system in the body, it is wide spread and may have invaded any number of organs.
