He's a 7.5 month old Pomeranian, he weighs about 10 lbs. He growls at me when I try to brush his fur. But I'm not intimidated by him. :)

righjt. First, get a rubber brush. Maybe a grooming mitten. Chosoe the style acording to the lenght of hair.
Now, it depends how he reacts to being grooming as to how you deal with him.
It might be easiest to brush him on your lap, but if he gets nippy, you'll need to put him on a table and have someone hold him ghently down while you brush him.
Always brush with the fur, and don't overdo it. When it starts to thin out, stop. Do it again tomorrow. That way he won't get bald patches.
Once the hair has thinned out a bit, you might want to get another brush, wider and thinner, to finish off.
Observe how dogs groom eachother - mother and pup - and mimic is as best you can early on. It will be slightly more familliar and less likely to disterb him. Let him smell everyhting before you apply it - but put your hand as close to where he's smelling as possible, so it smells a little of you.

Other than that... freeforall!

Don't bathe him too often. Grooming is usualy just brushing. You'll damage his skin if you bathe him too often. I'm not fammilar witht he breed so I can't say how often "too often" is. You might want to look at it on google.

You may also have to file his claws down, but a better way to keep them in check is to take him for long walks. Run around a bit. He's not a cat, his claws don't grow as fast.

It's all about getting him used to it first so the git stays still for long enough to brush him, and to try and make him live with the bath :P
In the summer, might be best to take him outside to wash him. He'll think it's a game that way. Winter... well, you're on your own.

Chamomile tea works very well, and is safe for him.
Dump it out of the teabag, and use 1 teaspoon for small breed, up to 1 tablespoon for a large breed. Mix it in a little canned food, such as Mighty Dog, or Cesar's, and give about 30 minutes before he needs to relax. It will keep him happy, but reduce stress. It can be given as needed. When he is un-stressed, he will soon learn that it is not all that bad after all! and you shouldn't need to keep giving the chamomile.
If your grocer doesn't carry chamomile, you can use 'Sleepy-Time Tea' as it is the same, but with added herbs. Plain chamomile tastes better to a dog.
