Lots of people believe that religion causes war & disorder. That is not true. PEOPLE causes war & disorder & chaos & they uses religion as a means 2 achieve their ends which invariably is their own personal enrichment at the expense of another. If there was no religion people would just use another means 2 achieve that end & there would still be war, disorder & chaos. Do u all really believe that without religion there would be no war in Iraq, no World War 1 & 2, no American Civil War, no Vietnam War? All these wars had little 2 do with religion. In fact all the participants, or most of them, in the World Wars were Christian & before the intervention of the US, the Middle Eastern wars were all Moslem participants.. Then there was the war between India & Pakistan... England & the Falklands...how about piracy in the 18th century, the European wars for the West Indies? Wouldnt there still be racial clashes, robberies, murders...crime in general? Do religion cause these things?
Get real, it isnt religion, it is we the people that causes war. We just use the bibles & the various religious books as tools. Without religion man would still be greedy, avaricious & will still kill for gold, oil... another man's wife...& what really is the biggest cause of all disorder & chaos in the world...MONEY!!!

Religion is the following of a certain doctrine of understanding that a certain group may have about what is reality. Reality stands alone and does not need people following a concept of that. What reality needs if for people to operate in reality. I guess what I am saying is that you must find out the path to TRUTH and find that for yourself, making it a one on one relationship with God or TRUTH, and not through another human being. If you do find your way to the TRUTH through a revelation from God, then that is not for someone else that is for you. It can be a witness that you have found something that everyone needs, but if they start to follow you and your explanation and do not seek the relationship for them self, then we have another religion born, and God knows we do not need that.
Every real man of God that has ever come down the pike, was trying to tell you to get yourself hooked up to God first then only and I mean ONLY get confirmation from outside sources. if you have questions on how it is done, a good place to start is with the Teachings of Jesus, in the Gospels. You will then understand who God is and who you are and that it ain't about religion, it is about reality that can only be found inside of you with God's help. By the way I'll say this again as I have said it a million times before, "God Is Not Religious!" He's REAL...

The people here that say there would be mayhem and so forth... I find your answer disturbing.

Are you saying that if it wasn't for the fact that you believe in your god, you would be out raping and pillaging? I don't believe in your god, and I don't do that. Neither do the millions of other atheists in the world.

Interesting, though. I must admit, I'm not sure that I want lunatics like you to discover the truth, if that's truly the way you will act when you do...

True. The horrific murder of children, the genocides based on religious belief and much of the prejudice would go away. In the 1800s people used the Bible to justify slavery, today they use it to justify homophobia -- literalistic religions are more dangerous than any others because they take bronze age books and try to apply human writing by primitives to our society.

That all said, I am religious myself, and unlikely to ever leave my church. I raised two boys though and both are completely non-religious.

You would have true anarchy.
You want something you take it if they resist you kill them or they kill you.
High level of society would be the tribe, or maybe a city-state. It would be the law of the strongest.
If you can kill him you become the strongest and you can change all the laws you want.
There would be no right or wrong just might, and thoughts with you might turn on you.
A world where life is cheap.
Remember: Rape the women and spare the sheep!

Probably NO because (a) people who cause the worst problems in the world pay no attention to the religious values they claim to embrace -- so they'd simply continue to kill and steal; and (b) some people need the the threat of divine punishment to stop them from doing terrible things. There are a lot of crazies around who are held in check by a fear of 'God'.

False.
If there were no believers in Jesus Christ and God, satan would rule this earth, which seems to be the case, but think about if he were unleashed? If there were no Christians to pray back the evil that is surely found in every person's heart.

Not necessarilly. While some wars are fought in the name of religion, it does not follow that those wars would not find another name to fight under. Such as is determined by those who desire to war, and manipulate the masses to support war.

Manipulation takes many forms. Religion is just one of the more lazy models.

There would be NO peace! The world would be in a state of anarchy. There is no consequence for any actions, and no accountablility. What would the laws be based on? There would be no right or wrong.
