I am talking about BIG Suv's that have V-8's. Im not talking about any V6 Suv's. It's all about who is taller and bigger. These things are the reason our gas is so expensive

I do consider them to be unpatriotic during these times.

It is also my understanding that they are classified as a sport vehicle/truck and as such do not have to have the same emission standards as passenger cars. Just what we need--more pollution. I'd never own one even if it were free. They are a hazard on the freeway because many owning them have a false sense of security. Equally offensive are the huge "F15,000,000 " pick-ups which are not used for working reasons and for the most part, also pointless in a city. I've found that the drivers of many of those are often just road bullies. I just smile sweetly at the gripes the drivers make at the pump as I fill my gas tank for only the second time this month.

First and foremost it has nothing to do with what someone else "needs" because then that throws into question what the definition of "need" is and who is defining it. The idea of them being unsafe is a generalization that may apply to a few SUV's but certainly not all of them. With the amount of trucks and SUV's on the road, I can barely see anything on the road anymore in my little camry and an SUV helps elleviate this problem. However, we also own a 4-runner that happens to get 19 mpg on the city roads and about 21 on highway driving. Not exactly a gas guzzler. We neither have kids or a boat or RV but it helps us to haul things and we are able to do so without getting a truck which manages around 13 mpg.

Pretty broad statement to say that SUV's are the reason our gas is so expensive. Do you think it may have something to do with us being dependent on others for a bulk of our fuel, or the fact that others control the price of crude oil, or the fact that we DO consume so much of it?

Do you have no concept of freedom and liberty?

I don't own an SUV, but who are we to decide which cars everyone will drive? And they're not unsafe. If you were hit by another vehicle, what vehicle would you want to be in - a Prius or an SUV?

And, in case this is what you're thinking, the problem with gas prices isn't cause by SUVs. It's much, much bigger than that.

I don't know if I hate them in general, because they do make sense for some people, but America definitely has fallen for the marketing hype and gone overboard with them. You'll undoubtedly get several responses about how much safer SUV's are; this is more marketing hype. Data shows they get in more accidents, which tends to be related to things like heavier weight, longer stopping distance, etc. In this case "safer" means "I'm more likely to get in an accident, but at least I'll just mess you up and not get hurt myself." In which case I should probably start driving a bus, then you can start driving a tank, etc. etc. Then we'll all be really "safe".

Yeah, SUV's are pretty much useless in the city. A sedan car is perfectly safe for a family with one kid. I can see SUVs being used on road trips though since you need extra space to haul stuff around, but that's about it.

I drive a small SUV (Honda Element) and I love it! Incidentally, I have two children, and as the vehicle only has 4 seats it's rather practical for us. I guess to each their own, and if one can afford to fill one of those monster SUV's, then more power to 'em.

Strange? It turns out you recognize definitely 0 approximately a gasoline marketplace economic climate? I advocate you appear up the petrodollar and it'll supply you a beautiful well rationalization related to $ in step with barrel and the way that's priced. Iraq has little to do with it, and I am astounded that your common sense fails to peer that a struggle in Iraq and Afghanistan truthfully expenditures cash in itself. Maybe you will have to additionally evaluate security budgets in opposition to oil expenses to get an total view. Rationality turns out redundant for your assertion.

Excuse me while I go pry your Prius out from under my tire..... ok now that that's done... I'll still drive my Jeep when gas is $6 a gallon. I need it. I like it and I use it. Let's see your prius or whatever "eco friendly" car it is you drive follow me to half the places I go.
