At the library or cheap on half.com you can get this book called how to eat for less than 99 cents a meal or something like that. Author's last name is Kaysim or Kaysir or something.
Also if you have a serious financial need, some college students actually qualify for food stamps so you should call the food stamp hotline or call Second Harvest to find out if you qualify to get help from a food bank.
Get lots of pasta, rice, canned beans, frozen generic vegetables, fewer prepared foods because they cost more, eggs, etc. Also go to more campus activities at which they are serving free food or even off campus at art galleries and other free events there may be free food served like wine and cheese receptions.

I know college cafe. food is not the greatest, but for my school it comes right out of tuition anf financial aid, so I don't have to worry about spending money to feed myself.
Look into on campus meal plans, or mabye even loans to help cover food and the other personal expenses of college.
Also, I'm a personal fand of store brand macaroni and cheese. Not easy mac, just get the regular box kind and you can cook that in the microwave for like 1$ a box. All you really need to add is the water. Not the greatest stuff, but it's better then going hungry.

-Rice, beans (all kinds-dried or can), pasta. Another great way to stock up on fresh produce is to find a produce stand/market specifically. They sometimes have a section that has items marked down for quick sale. These items are usually good quality...but they need to be eaten within a day or two. Sometimes there might be a blemish or two on the fruit or vegetable but all you do is use a paring knife to cut that bad part off. The same "Quick Sale" can be applied to the meat section. They usually mark the item with red stickers. Also, check around your town for Mexican or Asian grocery stores...their prices on the same items are sometimes a whole lot cheaper.

I got you! Go for store brands instead of name brands. You get mac and cheese for $0.25/box, banquet pot pies are $.79 each, get a 10 lb bag of potatoes, they go with everything and you can eat stuffed baked potatoes for a meal (chili, broccoli & cheese, etc.) Get a value sized bag of frozen boneless, skinless chicken breasts maybe $7 or $8 but usually have a dz peices in there. Tuna and no name brand soups about $0.59/can each. the trick is to buy things you can make several different dishes with instead of $2.99 guacamole that you will only use with tacos and can't really afford to make the tacos! go to the store late at night or right before it closes and scout the meat aisle. Meat is spendy and in the late evening they will mark down meat that will go out of date soon. It's still perfectly fine usually, just get it frozen or cooked promptly. There should also be a 'day old' bread store in your area. You can usually get loaves for $0.25 versus $1.59 at the store. Buy your meat first, then potatoes and rice. There you have your basic keep you full fare. the you can go for veg and special side dishes and THEN chips and such. Look at all ads for your local groceries, there is almost always sale on something. As long as it really is a deal, buy groceries around the ads depending whats on sale. you can use that soup to make gravy for the rice, bake the chicken right in in and there you have a great meal!

when i was a broke college student i lived on: ramen, 99c burgers @ jack & burger king, lucky charms, sandwiches & mom's cooking. if you have a costco card or know someone with one i'd suggest making that a routine. you can get good stuff in bulk. i'd buy bread, cold cuts, milk, butter, cheese, sodas, etc. to make yourself good stuff on a small budget.
