It is time to say bye when you know in your heart that this is a dead end relationship that is not bringing positivity to your life. Trust yourself. You are the one who has been with this person for four years so you have more than enough experience to make an informed decision. Four years is a while but so is a lifetime of unhappiness.

Its when you realize that things can't be between you and that person. Their goals and your goals don't coincide, and you're headed on two different paths. Or you realize that the person has no regard for your feelings and only cares about their own. You will never forget.
Now if you're married and have kids,well then its a little harder to say bye bye.
