OK here is the deal...I took my dog to the vet and she wasn't exactly happy and the vet hit her! Can you freaking believe it! I left, I told him we would not be bringing our animals back and I would tell everyone I knew about him. What I want to know is: can I post signs around town, you know like hang them up in the library, grocery store, dry cleaners stating what he did and advising ppl not to go there or would this be slander (even though it is true) and could he sue me? I don't want to sue him since my dog was not really hurt but I would like to see him put out of business. He really does not need to be working with animals!

drake...a vet is an "animal doctor", they specalize in dealing with animals and should be professional about it. I know I pay (paid) alot of money for his services. If I took my 4 yr old to the pediatrian and he was slapped I would go insane! And for the record my dog didn't even bite him, she was growling and trying to get away.

Wow - I would freak if anyone, let alone a vet, hit my dog!! I really don't know the slander laws, though. Thing is, you could put the signs up if you want, who will know they were done by you? If nobody sees you put them up..... I'm just saying, that's all. ; )

They don't hang babies up and slap them on the butt any more.
And just because somebody has a Vet's license doesn't necessarily mean they know what they are doing. We had a kitten who we thought had been bit by a snake or a spider...It went from a healthy kitty in one day to a skinny sick wheezing kitty. Took him right to the vet, who wanted tests for diseases done, we said, no, save our cat, they accused us of neglecting and starving the cat (NOoooo...he was fat and fine the day before. If the vet had only examined our kitten he would have found a big spider bite on his chest. If it had been drained and the kitten put on I.V. for dehydration he would have been fine. Instead the vet made us take the kitten home, where my daughter had to sit there feeding him water with an eyedropper and watch her kitten die a miserable death. THAT was cruel. That guy shouldn't be a vet. Neither should a jerk who hits an animal for any reason. I'd like to hear what The Dog Whisperer had to say about this.

Call a lawyer about the posters. There is no reason at all for a vet to hit an animal. If the dog was trying to bite then the vet should have used a muzzle, that's what they're for. I'm a dog groomer and I have a couple of dogs that I have to muzzle when I'm working on certain parts of their body but as soon as I'm done with that area I take the muzzle off and everything's good. Anyone who works with dogs should know that when they get scared or nervous, they bite. This particular vet needs to be put out of business. Good luck to you. I hope you suceed!

I cant believe your vet hit your dog. It is very unprofessional and a bad call on his part but I would be careful about slandering his name all over town. I doubt any damage was done to the dog so I would just stop going there. If there was damage done then that is cause for a lawsuit. Most vets get there business from word of mouth so if you start telling your friends that could hurt his business more than you could imagine. Good Luck!

Well not to sound squirrilly, but he can't slander you if he doesn't know it's you! The only reason I would even suggest this is out of all people in the world to hurt your dog, it should NOT be your vet. I'd kill my vet, so hanging signs anonomously, might be detrimental enough for him to reconsider his behavior. If he accuses you you can deny it, I'm guessing if he's hit your dog, there's probably others. And you probably don't want to put him out of business either (really) just make him feel a little economic pinch?

Write a letter to the editor of your local paper. You cannot name the specific vet, but you can say what town they are from. Describe in detail what happened and warn people to be aware that this is happening. Post your name and email at the end so curious people can contact you. When they do, then you can give names.

I've seen this done in my local paper (about a certain furniture store that ripped people off). It helped me at a time I was looking to buy a new couch, and when I emailed him, he gave me the name of the store.

I hope you have found a new, caring vet, and wish you well in warning others of this unethical one.

Ok first of all your vet should not be hitting animals because he or she should love animals since he or she is a vet second you could probably do something else like go look up a number to report this so he or she could get fired but I don't think you need to make posters and put them up Around every ware because that's doing way to much work when you could make it more simple like go online and look up a number for someone hitting my dig I'm not sure you could try to make it shorter because that person needs to be fired. (Hope that helps)

"she wasn't exactly happy" hmmm, was she trying to jump up and bite? If so, please, please, take your time and consider what really happened, was it a protective move or did the vet really swing back and haul off and hit the dog. Just as your dog has it's instinctual reactions, so does the vet...just take your time before you do anything to escalate the situation...If your vet stopped a bite, then maybe he did you a FAVOR, because if your dog would have bitten him, he would have had to report the dog.

sorry, I shouldve read the whole thing.....never mind.

i would call the police department that's crap and i think that if the vet hit my dog i couldn't control myself and i would of beat his ***!!!! That's animal cruelty and its his line of work there has to be something you could do!! I do believe that if you posted signs he could get u for slander but just tell everyone you know just tell them you recommend not going there and tell them why there is nothing he can do about that but CALL THE POLICE!!

Contact your attorney and file a lawsuit. It'll hit the papers for sure. Also, contact your local television channel, some stations love to air things like this.
