Yes, you can move down in MP's. The biggest advantage of 8 MP's is to make very large prints. At the more common print sizes, you won't know the difference.

Also, the Canons are likely to do other things better than the Vivicam.

An optical viewfinder is the traditional small window that is used to frame a shot. Today some people use the LCD to do framing, but that requires a different technique (holding the camera out away from your face), that other people do not like.

Some cameras have an electronic viewfinder (really another small LCD), instead of the optical one. Optical is clearer, but may not show the whole picture.

Some cameras don't have any viewfinder, just the large LCD.

If you consider getting a camera with no viewfinder, make sure that you try out taking pics with the camera held away from your face. Don't get the camera if this technique doesn't feel right to you. Taking pics should be comfortable and fun, not a chore.

Good Luck

Optical view finder is the little window you can look through to see what you're shooting instead of looking at the screen. This is good for very bright situations where the screen may be hard to see. 8mp is more than enough and personally unless you plan on making tons of poster prints is a waste of space. I have a 4mp camera and you can't tell the different when printing 4x6's or 8x10's. I say go for the camera with more features. Anything 4mp or higher you'll be very happy. You'll also get more pictures on a card with a slightly lower resolution.

Btw, I've printed 16"x20" prints with my 4mp camera, no problem.

For normal everyday shots, even a 2mb works just great for a 4x6 print out or slightly bigger. What's great about digital is that you can edit and touch up and do so many other fun stuff to it. Bigger MB would be required for larger photographs or posters.

Definitely virtual digicam. It continuously has larger lens than digicam mobilephone. Number of Mpix is much less most important than lens, think. Digital digicam has additionally larger constructed-in application than digicam mobilephone.
