Hi Heather,

Not everyone does cooking by the book! However, an assumingly large amount of these people know their own recipes by heart. If you're trying something new that you saw on the internet or maybe on television, I would strongly advise that you use a recipe to assist you or it could end being a mess!

Good luck with your cooking!

As long as you have a feeling for what goes together and a knowledge of the basics of cookery methods, probably a better result. But you have to learn and practise the basics first. Just remember taste is not a science but cooking methods may be - you can adjust quantities in some things but in others you could wreck what you are trying to do - just think yorkshire pudding!

You only need to do the cooking by the book if you're baking a pretty cake, otherwise there is no problem. =o

It's a piece of cake to bake a plate of cake. If the way is hazy, you gotta do the cooking by the book!

You can't be lazy. Never use a messy recipe, the cake would end up crazy! If you do it by the book then you'll have a cake.

If you ask me you get better taste. I use the book for the basis of ingredients but usually add a couple extra ingredients for flavor.
