Safety systems in cars from the shock absorbing bumper, to the padded dash, to the collapsing steering wheel, to the head/neck restraints to the air bags to the seat belt/shoulder harness are designed to work together to reduce major injuries or deaths in the majority of accidents. The majority of accidents involve front or rear collisions with other vehicles or objects. They have saved thousands and thousands of lives over the years. Obviously there are some types of accidents where a seat-belt would not be helpful and may even prevent rescue but these occur in only a small minority of cases. I agree there are many people who still drive around beltless. There are many more "beltless" drivers in our cemeteries.

although i wear mine because the laws are so strict - I think it is a silly law and they should not force people to wear them. i think they would change the law if you put those that make this law into a burning car and jam the seatbelt and hand them a pair of nail clippers and say good luck. or better yet put one of their loved ones in a burning car with a jammed seatbelt and hand them nail clippers and tell them to free them. and for anyone saying it cant happen well just hasn't lived it. I lost someone and had nothing to help them but a pair of nail clippers and needless to say they didnt make it. now I wear them because i have no choice but I also carry a razor knife.

They like the thought of going through the windscreen! I say good luck to them, but I myself much prefer the safety of my seatbelt! Hope I don't run over some one that has been ejected from their car and flys into the path of mine, cause I ain't stopin'
