There is no history of abuse or emmotional problems. The doc told me 3 yrs ago he would outgrow it but he hasn't. The same doc refuses to refer to a urologist.

Hopefully before he gets married.

It is not uncommon for this to go on through highschool. It is a type of sleep disorder.

I have the same problem but with a girl. I've taken her to the doctor, had all kinds of tests run and still nothing. They do outgrow it but it can keep happening until they are as old as 15. Just limit the intake of liquids and stop them after a certain time of night (I stop all after 7:00pm). Make sure they go to the restroom before going to bed and hope for the best. Oh, yeah, and buy stock in overnight absorbant pants!!!!

You first need to not make it a HUGE issue. Alot of boys have trouble waking up to use the restroom. The best thing you can do to help is to make sure that he goes to the bathroom before he goes to bed and not give him anything to drink an hour before( a sip of water would be ok if he is thirsty).
There still could be some underlining emotional problems that you are not aware of. He could be afraid to get out of bed (monsters under the bed), kids are teasing him, your household has had something going on that is not sitting well with him. All of these things can make children wet the bed.
You need to not harrass the boy about it. Talk to him about anything that could be bothering him. Don't punish him for it. It is done in his sleep and he can't control what happens in his sleep. Then just make sure that you are diligent in what I said about before he goes to sleep.
One other thing, boys going through puberty can also do this. Before they are grown enough to ejaculate, they may urinate instead. If he has wet dreams, this can be the result of this happening.
He will grow out of it ,as he matures. He just needs time to do so.

My daughter started wetting the bed again when she was in kindergarten. The doc told me that she was growing faster than her bladder.
I would also recommend getting a second opinion. Your Primary care doc, doesn't call all of the shots. Call your insurance company and tell them you want a 2nd opinion. They can tell you what you need to do.

try limiting what he has to drink after 7pm and get him up at intervals like a couple hours after going to bed or once during the night.
What he is eating and drinking may have an effect too. lots of sodas or iced tea with caffine have a diuretic ( water making) effect on the body.
It is hard, but be very patient with him, it's not his fault . try researching online there are several great websites.. and insist the doctor helps you.. if he won't you should get another doctor.

For 9 year olds, I think this is rather normal. His bladder just hasnt grown with the rest of his body yet. It will probably stop in the next couple of years. Just because he wets the bed does not mean that there is anything wrong with him. You have nothing to worry about it.

set the alarm clock and wake him up in the middle of the night to pee. After a week or so of this, he will teach his body to wake itself up and go to the bathroom himself.
