One of our farm cats had her kittens in a cardboard box in an old barn and left them there. We knew she was pregnant, but never found the kittens until a couple days maybe even a week after she had them. This was her first litter however her sister was pregnant at the same time yet she raised hers. She is currently pregnant again and I'm worried that she will do the same thing and I don't want these kittens to die also. Please HELP..

It is quite common for inexperience and the stresses of pregnancy to exhaust them to the point where they become ill and abandon their kittens. Other times domestic cat’s litters contain one or more star crossed runts that will not survive unless we hand raise them ourselves.

How to care for the kittens:

If there isn’t a mother cat and the kittens are not yet eating solid food, they will need to be bottle-fed every 2-3 hours.

It’s important not to offer them cow’s milk (this will make them sick). Buy Kitten Milk Replacement (KMR), a product either in liquid or dry form that you prepare for the kittens and that is available at pet stores.

Cats age quicker than humans but they still go through the same phases they go through infancy, teenage, adult and senior. I took my cat to the vet. yesterday and he said if I want to breed her that I should wait until her 3rd heat to make sure shes mature enough to care for the kittens. Maybe your cat is to young to take the responsibility of the kittens. If she abandons these kittens and you catch them in time try to get the kittens to feed off another cat who has recently had kittens or hand feed them. I had a cat a few years ago that abandoned every litter she had, on her 3rd litter I put her in a crate about a week before she had them so she wouldn't be able to leave them, everything went okay until the kittens were about 3 weeks old and then she started trying to get away when I would let them out to play, but I would put her back in there with her kittens, anyways I went in one day and the kittens were gone, she had eaten them so I dont recommend doing something like that.

Probably the same reason some mother's abandon their babies.
Please, please have your cats spayed. If money is a problem there are organizations that will help. Look on your computer. There are more than 8 million healthy cats and dogs put down in this country every year because no one wants them. This includes adorable puppies and kittens. And many, many thousands are killed or die from starvation or poison that are just dumped on the highway, or as some stupid people believe, dumped near a farm. They think they can take care of themselves. WELL THEY CAN'T!!!

the mama cat doesn't have the instinct in her to take care of the kittens. go to a farm supply store or pet shop and get the replacement milk and you'll need a little bottle as well which you can get from the store too. you'll be bottle feeding the little kittens until they can drink on their own. been there,,done that,,,,,,

sometimes if the kittens are handled to early on then she will abandon them, maybe the other cat was a threat to her so she left them!! but you really should get them spayed, i made that mistake and i had kittens coming out of my ears!!! if she has these kittens make sure you rehome them before they are old enough to have kittens themselves otherwise your doomed!!! like i was!!! Good Luck with her!!

Guess what...this is going to continue on and on until you get her spayed. Just because you keep her outside doesn't mean you don't have to take care of her.

Plus, her sister had a litter...it's because of animal owners like you that shelters have to exist to find homes for unwanted animals.

If she's early in the pregnancy, a vet will abort the babies then sterilize her.

Even though she is a barn cat, you REALLY need to spay her, and her female kittens, and any other female cat on your property. It is very cruel to allow her to keep getting pregnant... thats all she seems to know.. eat, sleep, and take care of young.

SPAY HER.

Sometimes they abandon their first litter .Probably too young to be mothers.
You better have her sterilized, her sister too, her kitten too. Because soon you will have an army of cats.

some animals just don't have those mothering instincts. There is no way to tell if she will abandon the second litter or not. I would strongly suggest you get her and the other girls all spayed
