I mean, the media in general doesn't seem to care much about anything that actually affects the common man in america, if anything, I'd say it was the "Fascist media" but what, really, do the liberals do that the conservatives don't do?

I really wonder where this term came from myself, seeing as how ALL media gave Bush a free pass in the period leading up to the invasion of Iraq. People were fired from newspapers, magazines, and television networks for being "unpatriotic" and trying to report all the holes in the administration's rhetoric.

If anything, they're playing catch-up now, and it's almost too little too late.

It was Walter Lippman who coined the phrase “. Lippman’s concept may indeed be in effect today. Hence, an understanding of the mass media will throw considerable light on the structure of Western society, the relationship between the public and those who possess power, as well as the ideologies produced by the media and their impact on the public. All scholars generally agree that the media do have the capacity to set the agenda of public discourse about political affairs, and it is widely recognised that the media has a significant role in actualising the diffusion of Western ideology and culture throughout the world. However, they differ over the degree to which the media limits the public’s understanding of current affairs and the overall consequences of this.
Nevertheless, the vast extent of the manipulation of the media under the sway of business interests has been harshly revealed in the statement of John Swainton, Chief of Staff of the New York Times. “There is not one of you who would dare to write his honest opinion,” he reprimanded his colleagues at his retirement party in September.
“We are tools, vessels of rich men behind the scenes, we are jumping jacks. They pull the strings; we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are the properties of these men. We are intellectual prostitutes.”

I don't call them 'the liberal media' at all.

They use to be liberal and normal in the 60's, 70's and a little in the 80's.

Now I call them 'Bush PR People'.

They know which side to butter their bread and they do not bite the hands that feed them!

It's merely a path towards a scapegoat for angry conservatives. There is a media bias, but it's usually in favor of advertisers and governments. Government could include very liberal individuals when one is dealing with local and state situations.

Republicans have successfully painted 'liberals' as spineless communist wishy washy anti-american wafflers, making the term broadly unpopular. So when the media reports on something they don't like, they call them the 'liberal' media.

Never mind that today's Republican party would make the liberals of the 60s look like conservatives.

I would say they are very "liberal" with their own interpretation of the facts. They are quite "liberal" with their use of marketing techniques to get ratings. We all get a "liberal" amount of BS with our daily news.
