if you have a tv and vcr and/or dvd player, you can learn martial arts at home.. grant it, home study doesn't fully compare to having a real sifu/sensei there where you can pick their brain onsite, it can still be a great way to learn. whether it's money, time or location, video instruction can provide you with the answer you're looking for.. from karate to gung fu there are an endless selection of videos out now for the picking.. just remember to get one by a certified or accreditited martial artist. research martial arts that might be attractive to you and try to find an instruction video from someone who is well known in that art. panther video is a great source of martial knowledge at a reasonable price. we get all our videos from them and not once have i ever been disappointed with the quality of instruction or the tape/dvd itself...

There are ways to learn martial arts at home, but there is no comparison between doing it at home and practicing during class with your instructor(s)

If we learn taekwondo, karate, aikido etc, we can do some "kata" exercise at home.
But we still need go to dojo, because we need partners for sparring. Furthermore, we need instructor to give us some feedback.

Do you have a instructor? If so, shadow boxing, watch yourself in mirror as you work on your technique, etc...

If you don't have instructor, don't bother to try.
