it's kind of racy, all of that "begat-ing", and the violence, oh dear.

I'd say no. One I object to the content (murders, rapes, incest and abortion done/ordered by God several times). I mean cmon Lot getting drunk and impregnating both his daughters? That's a wholesome family tell right there. God ordering pregnant women slaugtered in Hosea 13:16? Mmm--m.

Two even the 'better' stories are generally long and wordy in ways kids don't understand. The childrens bibles are copouts leaving out plot points and violence. I'd rather use mother goose or storybooks.

Yes, its the best story book ever exist on earth. I believe some answers are going against the Bible, however to be honest, the Bible itself is Holy just like any other religious books trotting the face of this globe. The fact is the teaching in the Bible are being misinterpret by believers, thus creating confusion on others. For example, One teaching in the New Testament says " If your hit on one cheek turn the other. What exactly does this means? The real meaning of this teaching is to AVOID being hit. How do we avoid being, By loving one another just as you love yourself. Should the whole world knows exactly how to love one another, We wouldn't be facing all these crisis.

The bible is the best reading material for ANYONE to read. And starting with your children early is a good idea. You should get the Bible book of stories. I got one from a Kingdom Hall and they are great for kids.I used to read it every night. It doesn't bend the truth or anything but it is simple so young children can understand.- hope that helped.

Parts of it should be saved for when the child can actually understand what is being said. Bible stories, however are very suitable. Noah's Ark, Samson, Joseph and the coat of many colors, the lions den, shadrack meashack and abendigo, creation, baby jesus, etc, there are many to choose from. and all teach basic good values such as honesty, humility, strength, and faith.

When I was a child my mother would recite some of the Psalms for us and help us to memorize them. I love that she did that, and when I was in 6th grade, a long long long time ago, I was the only kid in my Sunday School class that could recite them, not the entire book of Psalms but several of the more well known ones. So I would say yes. Now I wouldn't read the story of Sodom and Gomorrah to my daughter but the Psalms and Jesus' Parables, yes.

It depends on the version of the Bible you are using.A lot of the older versions do have hard words that I barely understand.I recommend using the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures....it is easy to understand and there are no words like, thy and thee and begat and all that. You can get it from one of your local Kingdom Halls and also there is a Book called My Book of Bible Stories that is specifically geared towards children for them to understand and ask them questions that willl make them think and how they can apply the lesson in their life today. If you are interested in getting these publications at no cost to you,you can go to your local Kingdom Hall... email me and we can try to figure out how to get these books to you.My email address is:espernza22@yahoo.com.

Yes! More appropriate stories (of men and women who had to have courage and faith in God, etc.) than the "racy" material are more common anyway. What a wonderful thing to be thinking about as you fall asleep!

Try a childrens bible. But otherwise, skip to the parts that are interesing to the children.

It must be good for bedtime, though, because look at how many people sleep in church!
