Hahahah.....I like that question. I am American and it racks my nerves to hear people constantly do that, too. They all are a bunch of hyprocrits. Well at least most of them. Well to answer your question. Its because they hide behind religion and they have been brainwashed for years.

Have you taken a look at the Middle East lately? Also, the UK has a higher crime rate than the United States.

Yep it is true. The UK has stricter gun control laws then the US, therefore taking guns away from good citizens and not the criminals. That way, the criminals in the UK feel safe shooting anyone they please knowing that their victim would be unarmed. You can do some research and you will find out that it is true.

Perhaps it's like many things - you get a biased or limited view of things through the media, and if you don't live in the country you have nothing to correct your perception.
Perhaps you have visions of Christian preachers & healers in you mind, and large crowds of worshipers gathered in front of them admiring them & chanting religious verse? Or maybe they're all barricaded behind fortified fences and surrounded by stock-piles of arsenal?
Some people say that as a socity becomes more educated (in the sciences & subjects that develop logical thought) they don't practice their faith so much (though some may still claim to be of that faith). Some religions however are so strict and indoctrinating that fewer people leave that faith, even when they become educated.

Actually, a lot of the people here are not religious at all. But it's like that everywhere, you'll always have religious fanatics in every country. And by America, do you mean the whole continent? Because Canada and Mexico are American too.

As an Atheist American, I can honestly say that most people aren't "obsessed" with religion here in the States. Most would probably claim a decent interest, but most also usually only think about it when it's convenient for them to do so.

Ok....here's the 411....not all americans are obsessed w/ religion actually I haven't met that many that really are...usually you will find the obsessive one's you are talking about in middle america. The coasts are pretty liberal....I live in California....we don't thank god every 5 seconds. We don't even say "under god" in the pledge of alligiance. Christianity has nothing to do w/ it.

highest crime rate? maybe... only because some other countries either 1. don't report it or 2. don't report it accurately or by the same criteria.
That being said, why are other people around the world so offended by someone thanking God?
Are you afraid of him? perhaps there's a reason...

Talking about Christianity is not the same as living a Christian life, that is for sure. Same with Islamic, Jewish, and other faiths.

I would say that they talk to much about religion instead of doing something religious.

I don't think all Americans are, but there is a strong link between right wing politics and christianity in America.

Hello Gypsie.. :)

Not all that call themselves Christians, are following Christ's ways..I am not obesessed with any religion..

For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.

Jesus is my Life..nothing Less.. :)

In Jesus Most Precious Name..
With Love..In Christ..

I'm not obsessed with religion. I say "Thank God" all the time, because it is a figure of speech here. On tv, when you see these stars (music stars especially) accepting their awards, they tend to say something about God in their speeches kind of like to prove to their fans that they are spiritual or some such crap. Anyway... please don't use "all"...it's so "all-inclusive." lol Peace :)
