I have only a 1000 characters to work with in these additional details, so i won't name my whole list of books that taught me more about life than the Bible. But approximately how many books taught you more about life?

Every single book I have read, from J. Heller to G. Prec and others have taught me more about life than the bible.

This is because they were actually inspired by the actions and thoughts around them, the writers saw life and wrote. These are my contemporaries, not some propaganda from 2 thousand years ago.

With any luck, the bible will be seen as the same as Mao's little red book in the future.

Can't forget, Huxley, Burgess, Dickens, Neitze, Golding, Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Piaget, Vygostsky, Freud, and Barbara Cartland

None: I've read some books that have entertained me, some that have taught me, some that have enhanced my understanding of life, faith, etc. But I've always found the Bible (and God speaking to me through it by His Spirit - and there, I think, is the key) to be the best source.
Sure, there are bits that don't seem to make sense or just seem completely random, but it's awesome!

Irenaadler ("What does the Bible teach one about life? It just tells you what you should or shouldn't do...not why or how...and it's relevance to modern life is debatable.") I have to say I majorly disagree... the Bible teaches me the reason I'm here (to worship God, serve Him and know Him), it gives me a few simple guidelines to assist me in this, tells me that it's by belief in Jesus alone that I can enter into eternal life.
As for giving reasons for why to follow the rules... Who would you trust to tell you how to use some intricate piece of equipment, the guy who made it or some guy who's as unqualified to tell you how it works as you are? Similarly, God created life, who better to ask how to live it?

about 17. Roughly. But the Bible teaches us alot. Look at the story of Samson. That's why I no longer cut or wash my hair. There's also the one about Jesus washing the prostitutes feet. Now every time I'm with a prostitute, I always wash her feet.

There are really good life lessons in the Bible so I hope you're not making some kind of joke out of this.

The Bible is an accumulation of books that discuss social order, mode of dress, woman's issues, history of a nation, crime and punishment, eating habits, etc. etc. and can be found in a variety of more modern text. Every book I have ever read taught me something about life.

Probably 300 or so. Perhaps more.

I've also read several books that "clarified" the bible for me, e.g. Timetables of History, Dragons of Eden, The Devil: A Biography, The Phoenix Fire Mystery, Cosmos, etc.

In my experience most Christians don't have a clear picture of what's in the bible.

I've spent years researching the Bible, and I can honestly say that most of the literary fiction that I've read (Steinbeck, Kafka, Proulx, Dostoevsky, Cather, etc) has taught me more. I do acknowledge whatever influence the Bible had on any of the authors I have in mind, though.

Just about every single textbook I have ever been exposed to has taught me more than the Bible ever did. Although the Bible has taught me that I should love my slaves as much as I love beating my wife!
