To me it seems that many turn to religion for "salvation" or "direction" but at the same time it seems to be the driving force behind most of the bloodshed between cultures AKA war. Whether it be the current Isreal conflict, Islam vs Christianity, World War 1 and 2, religion in mind does more harm than good. So I ask you Yahoo people. Does religion do more damage than good?

Absolutely. Religion is to blame for many of the bloodiest wars and persecution of other groups. The sad fact is that this is still happening in this day and age.

Disagreement is even seen between different factions of the same religions. It can be seen between Muslims and different denominations of Christians.

I understand that religion does bring some comfort to some people. I just cannot understand why people have to impose their beliefs over somebody Else's with such extreme action. Religions just seem to be so hypocritical preaching love and forgiveness while being so intolerant of others beliefs.

Religion can do good but I do see your point. It's not so much the religion itself as the followers and the creators of the religion that cause's it to do so much damage. Religion has caused a great deal of problems throughout all of history, wars have been fought diffferent sects of teh same religion so not even a world unified religion would do good. It's the people who follow and interpret the holy book of whatever religion it is that have caused all of these problems. I do believe that humanity would be better if we all would have advanced without religion. But without religion we would not have ever of had such inventions like the printing press. So I guess I'll conclude with this. It's not the religion that has caused the problems but those who follow the religion.

Yes. Christian 'Dominionists' have largely usurped the local level political apparatus of the Republican Party, and are engaged in a sub rosa process to politically motivate moderate Christians under the false cover of religious issues such as morality and family values. The goal is nothing less than the takeover of all elective offices in the USA.

Their doctrine comes from the Bible, starting with the term 'dominion' at Genesis 1:28... “And God said unto them, [Adam and Eve] Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have DOMINION… over every living thing.” They interpret DOMINION as: “... a supremacy in determining and directing the actions of others or in governing politically, socially, or personally.”

They want to remake the USA as a theocracy... and they are succeeding.

Wake up. Take a stand. Do something... for we are sowing the seeds of our own destruction, while these religious nut-jobs are awaiting God's demolition job.

Historically the major religions would fall into that category. There are some new thought and practices being followed in spirituality that are more open to free thinking. Check out beyond the big 3 - Islam, Jewish, Christianity.

Those that start wars are usually religious fanatics that don't understand the scriptures of their religions. The boks of the major religions; Christianity, Judeaism, Catholisism, Muslim and Hindu ALL condemn violence.

It's not the religions that are the problem. It's the people that thinks they have to "prove" themselves to their views by forcing their religions on others through violence.

here's an exerpt from an article i found by William Edelen:

Many people started asking me this question ..."what is a cult....and how can you tell the difference between a "cult" and a "real" religion.?" Hey....easy question. No problem.

A CULT: Believes in heavenly signs such as comets and gateways to heaven and other mentally deranged ideas.
A REAL RELIGION Believes in heavenly signs such as stars in the East at their
leaders birth ..and the "sun standing still" for an entire day (Joshua 10:12) and other mentally deranged ideas.
A CULT Believes they have found the truth while all others are deceived.
A REAL RELIGION Believes they have found the truth while all others are deceived.. "Salvation is only through Jesus"
A CULT The leader says "believe me and you will go to Heaven."
A REAL RELIGION The leader says "believe me and you will go to Heaven...don't
believe me and you will go to someplace called 'hell"."
A CULT Has leaders, mostly men, often wearing fancy robes and promising you
salvation and heaven if you will give them your money and property.
A REAL RELIGION Has leaders, mostly men, often wearing fancy robes and promising you salvation and heaven if you will give them your money and property.
A CULT Claims their leader is led by God, and God speaks to him and tells him what to do. Their leader talks to God.
A REAL RELIGION Claims their leader is led by God, and God speaks to him and tells him what to do. Their leader talks to God.
A CULT Makes miraculous claims about the importance of their leader.
A REAL RELIGION Makes miraculous claims about the importance of their leader ..,that he was born of a virgin ..could walk on water...could turn water into wine and feed thousands with two fish.
A CULT Thinks women are subservient to men and the male leader and should take orders from them, including sexual bondage.
A REAL RELIGION Thinks women are subservient to men: "Let the women keep
silent for it is not permitted for them to speak, they are commanded to be under
obedience." (1Cor. 14:34) "Man was not created for woman, but woman was created for man." (1Cor 11;13) "Let woman learn silence in all subjection. No woman shall have authority over a man." (1 Timothy 2:11)

See how easy it is to tell a cult from a real religion. No problem.
