How old are you? You should want a summer job if you are 17 or 18 anyway. Get a job then the pressure would be off of you. When you start working and see your check, and the things you can buy with the check, you may be much happier.

Now if you are 18 and are not going to college and are not working then you need a job, if you don't want a job then you need to be making some other preperations if you dont want to abide by the rules.

Yep, sorry, Elisabeth, but I will have to agree with everyone else. If you want to relieve the pressure, you'll need to get a job.

I'd start by using the internet to search for employment, instead of wasting your time here on this site (trust me, I know from personal experience that this site is a HUGE time vacuum).

If you're in a spot where finding regular employment won't really work (for example, you're starting school soon), I'd recommend finding a place where you can volunteer for a few hours a week...Perhaps at a local hospital, or animal shelter. It's very possible that what your parents really want is for you to have some focus, and somewhere to go outside of the house. If you can't be making money, at least you can still be doing something positive, and show your parents that you are a responsible person.

Get the classifieds out of the newspaper ( not necessarily yours) and carry them around! Circle two new non-interested listings everytime they take it from your hands! every wednesday visit the local un-employment office to meet friends but have business attire over your threads! Ride the Bus to the nearest employment office on Friday to through them off! Monday morning get up at 6a.m. to leave the house before anyone else is up! Go hang at the all-night supermarket! Return by 8 am with new classifieds and go straight to your room! Nap til noonish! play the game all over again! Odd-numbered Tuesday is a interview day(yer goin 2 th main library at 10am)

to kill time, tell them you are looking for something "professional" so that it can help you segway into your future career path.

otherwise, get something and show them a paycheck, that's reall the only way to get them off your back.

that or get a job you know they'll disapprove of and point out to them that they made you get a job, now you have one and now you get a paycheck.

in HS i got a job working at an all night pool hall. worked from 5pm to 3 am. they hated it BUT I was getting a paycheck.

You need a job...you need to move out and get your own place. Live life, right now you're staying with what's secure and comfortable. This is your parents way of "kicking you out of the nest"

That depends on many factors - age, school.. etc..

If you are old enough to work and you are not in school. You should get a job - not for your parent's sake - but for your own personal and professional development.
