Light weights, lots of cardio. Any weight lifting will add muscle mass, but if you lose more fat poundage than you gain in muscle poundage you will still lose weight.

If you lift heavy weights you will probably gain more weight in muscle mass than you will lose in fat. Of course, you'll still look a lot better b/c muscle take up less space than fat. So even by gaining weight you'll drop sizes.

There is no 'supposed to' in this, it all depends on your goal. If you're trying to keep a small figure but be slim, then use light weights and lots of cardio.

The answer is not whether or not you want to lose weight because that's going to happen just by working out. The question you need, and only you can answer is do you want to be slim and trim which is light lifting with more reps or bulkout solid with less reps and more weight
