no because people steal pens all the time, pretty much everywhere. I have a pen that is from a restaurant that says "i stole this pen from..." clever.

No, because as someone else pointed out, robbery is the theft or attempted theft of property by the use, or threat, of force. If someone from the bank saw you take the pen and tried to stop you, and you punch them in the face and run, then it would be robbery.
To that same person who pointed that out, it would not, however, be burglary. Burglary is "unlawfully entering or remaining in a building with the intent to commit a crime therein". The key is that "unlawfully entering or remaining" part. As long as the bank is open for regular business, then you are lawfully entering and remaining. It would be burglary if you waited until they closed, climb in through the roof, and carefully make your way to the counter and steal the pen.
As it is, just stealing the pen would be plaind old theft of property, because you are taking property that does not belong to you, even if it is just a pen. And guess what. Any crime, no matter how big or small, that is committed in a bank is investigated by the FBI. So if the humorless men in the dark suits knock on your door tomorrow, you'll know why.
Of course, since the bank doesn't really care that much about a pen, I'd say it doesn't really matter that much. It would only become an issue if you really pissed off the bank manager and they wanted to get you back by reporting it. Then again, if you haven't pissed off the bank manager, and instead ask the teller politely, "Can I have this pen?" and the teller says, "Sure, take it," then it's not even a crime, because a representative of the bank voluntarily transferred possession of said property.

No. Bank robberies consist of stealing money. And you can't steal a pen as they are chained to the desk.

no because by definition robbery is "The act or an instance of unlawfully taking the property of another by the use of violence or intimidation." However it would be considered burglary. "The act of entering a building or other premises with the intent to commit theft." Sense you wouldn't be using violence or a threat it couldn't be considered robbery...but a good try with the play on words

I remember a long time ago, banks used to give away things, like pens, piggy banks, towels, etc.
Even now, with the their logo on everything, I sure that are happy for you to advertise for them.

I call it pollinating the world with pens...it's easy to forget and leave with the store's pen in your hand...so, when I notice I have someone else's pen (according to logo on pen), I leave it at the next place I visit.
So, I pick up a pen in one place and leave it in another...free advertising for all concerned!!! :-)
