As Clinton was supposed to put it at one time, 'we deal with what directly affects this country'.

Anyway, the governments of Rwanda, Sudan, Somalia, Ghana, and Eithiopa won't let help in. Shameful isn't it.

A very good question. I think it's because the rationalization that let us invade Iraq to oust a dictator committing atrocities doesn't apply to countries without oil, or some other way for the administration's buddies to make money.

Plus, the sad fact is that many in the government feel that a desatbilized Africa is better than a one with its act together.

Bob Geldof, the man behind Live Aid, has said that Pres. Bush has the most positive approach to Africa of any US president for decades.

Among other recent announcements, Pres. Bush has pledged $15 billion to fight the Aids pandemic and $10 billion to fight corruption and "open up markets" in Africa.

Ethiopia alone received about $114 million last year in U.S. foreign aid. That doesn't include financial aid from other countries.

There is quite a bit of financial aid going to Africa... which there has been for a couple decades now. Sometimes it takes more than that. Have you ever heard the quote, "You cannot help someone unless they are willing to help them self"?

In other words, Africa needs to find a way to stop the cause of their problems. Think about it, AIDS is rampant over there, yet couples with AIDS continue to have children with AIDS... it is accepted as the norm. Let me ask you, if you & your spouse both had AIDS would you have a child? Keep in mind you are both probably going to die before your child grows up. Leaving him/her an orphan since most of your relatives and friends have or will also die from AIDS. Your child will also be born with AIDS. If your child survives past infancy, they will probably be extremely unhealthy because they naturally have a lower immune system. On top of that, they will receive inadequate medical care, be malnourished, and be surrounded by poverty and filth.

As long as the people of Africa continue this cycle, their devastating lifestyle will remain the same... no matter how much money is given to them.

Should you decide that you personally want to help there are some fantastic organizations that you can donate to. World Vision is one I absolutely trust and have been involved with for many years.

Here's a snippet from their website:

Who is World Vision?

World Vision is a Christian relief and development organization dedicated to helping children and their communities worldwide reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty. Motivated by our faith in Jesus, we serve the poor — regardless of a person’s religion, race, ethnicity, or gender — as a demonstration of God's unconditional love for all people.

In 2005, 87 percent of World Vision’s total revenue was used to directly benefit the poor. For more information, visit the World Vision website at www.worldvision.org.

All the best!

This is because of the role of the media. When you turn on the television most americans hear about is afgahanistan and Iraq. it is important to note the far outreach of the influence of government and politics. The give you what they want for you to know, and half of the time the facts have been toyed with to favor one side over the other. Many Americans focus on what is going on around them.

You, my friend are asking a political question here :) To answer with one reason (and there are as many reasons as you can handle), human nature in this matter is reactive. The 9/11 attacks were caused from a group based in Aghanistan (Al-Qaeda), Iraq was percieved to be collaborating with them. So we did what we did and are now following up on it. Africa, instead has been the forgotten continent for long. There has been no direct threat from Africa, I hope to God there never is.

Afghanistan - because Osama Bin Laden boasted that he had blessed the blokes who attacked the US on 9/11.

Iraq - because as George Dubya Bush said "that guy Saddam tried to kill my dad" (when Bush Senior visted Kuwait in the aftermath of its Liberation during Operation Desert Storm)

I hardly hear about Afghanistan anymore on TV. Too many war orphans make americans get a case of the sniffles.

The Western governments don't give a damn about Africa unless they are going there to steal the resources. (Which is what they think about most of the world.)

It very almost grew to alter into that way while Tommy postpone exchange into charging for get admission to to Bush - shaking down firms - and annoying they sever ties with all Democratic institutions. you notice - the well-liked Republican is a mendacity, lazy, decrease primate. somewhat tailored to cognition - that's desperate via the medium of television to change on concepts cells. that's the reason they respond so properly to the Foreigner, Rupert Murdoch - and his plans to dominate them. That plan seems to be working rather properly.
