i was driving yesterday and putting on my make up while talking to my ex.bf and soon to be father of my child we were arguing and i was pulled over for going 65 in a 35 mile zone i was late to my doctors appointment and have been really stressed. i got into a fight to the police officer and smacked him with my purse not hard though and started screaming and crying threw a fit basically. does pregnancy help me out in court i have to go next week and i am nervous? i now have a speeding ticket, reckless driving fine, and assault on a police officer. do you think i can get some off this lowered or dropped? how do i get in tough with the police officer i hit with my purse and apologize?

There are a few questions in there, but I'll give it a shot.

Let's take this one step at a time. First, take responsibility for what you did and stop trying to get sympathy. Stressed or not, nothing made you speed through a residential area while talking on the phone and putting on makeup. Nobody made those decisions for you. Just be thankful you are alive and that you didn't wreck and hurt anybody. You screwed up and got caught, suck it up and pay the fines. The judge will not lower fines without a lot better reason than you've got. Be glad it's just fines and not time.

That's the easy part. Now let's deal with hitting the police officer. What exactly did he do to deserve it? He did his job and stopped someone who was posing a danger to the public. You were stressed. So was he, I'm sure. Do you think it's easy going out there every day and coming in contact with people who hate you and some that might want to kill you. He had no idea what kind of person you were when he pulled you over. You could have had a gun or anything else in that car. And you were obviously in a very unstable condition, which is a danger to his safety. If you spent a night in jail, good. You deserved it. Be thankful that you are not hurt and that your unborn child is not hurt. Fighting with the police could have caused a miscarriage, I've seen it before.

You say you want to apologize, and that's a good thing. If you know the officer's name, you can leave a message at the station to have him call you. If you really want to make an impression, go down the the station and speak to his supervisors. Explain to them that you know you screwed up and you really want to apologize to him for behaving like that. There's a good chance you will be able to tell him in person that you realize how stupid you acted. He'll probably appreciate it, since most people who screw up still blame the officer for it even though they are the ones who did it.

It probably won't help you in court, though, if that's all you want. The charge has been filed and will go to court as is. The only way to get any reduction in charges is to plead guilty to it. If you can't afford an attorney, try to make arrangements ahead of time to speak to the public defender. If you just show up in court, you really won't have much time to speak with them and explain what you want, which is to plead guilty and ask for leniency.

So as far as the court appearance goes, be prepared, dress nice, be respectful, take responsibility, and above all, do NOT make excuses. You screwed up, you got caught, and you're sorry. Pay the piper and move on with your life. It's gonna cost you some money in fines, and you will probably get probation (or some jail time if the officer was injured). What's done is done, just make sure you never do it again.

Wow, strike #1, talking (probably one the phone with b/f?) and if NOT on the phone, then arguing with him while driving? Still bad as its distracting.

Strike #2. 30 miles an hour over the speed limit, I'm impressed. You were doing DOUBLE what the speed limit was -5 MILES AN HOUR. My neiece was hit by a car yesterday by someone just like you, and then PARKED ON HER. Grats, no sympathy from me.

Strike #3. You struck a Policeman because you were stressed. "Oh, poor you. You see that Policeman? Every car he stops might be his last and you WORRY because YOU MIGHT BE LATE?"

You should CRAWL into that courthouse and throw yourself onto the mercy of that judge and apologize to that policeman. I'm sure they'll be MUCH kinder to you than you possibly deserve.

I guess you have to be responsible. Lay in the bed you made...
Ohh and again you are lucky you only got a ticket and have a court day. Talking in the cellphone while putting make up on and driving? you could have killed somebody. Stop whining and trying to get out some punishment you deserve...
Even thought this has to be a joke nobody can be so brainless to do a thing like that...

I think you're screwed. One hope you might have is to get your Dr. to testify that your pregnancy hormones are making you crazy, but I really doubt that a Dr. would do that. By the way, 35 mile per hour zones are that way for a reason, the safety of people, especially children. I have a child, you are about to have a child. It pisses me off when people speed through areas where children can get hit. So in the future, please be more careful.

If you do not have income you can qualify for a free attorney paid for by the tax payers; but don't expect much. Worry about the assault on a police officer; while the others may cost you something that can cost you time.

i can understand being stressed out while being pregnant but putting make up on while driving at 65 mph!?! that's crazy. who cares about how you look at the hospital? after being pregnant for awhile and not to mention after having your child your needs arent that important. in our state the speed limit for the interstate is 70mph i just cant believe theres someone, like you! out there wanting help to lower her misdemeanors for a lousy bad day. im sorry i have 4 kids and i would hate to run into you. i would sue you for all the damage you caused. just be happy it didnt turn into a fatal car accident. if your late for an appt call them and let them know or just reschedule!
