This worked for me. Give lots of praise as the dog does what is desired.

Training your dog to bark on command has another hidden feature - you can also train her to stop barking on command.

Steps:
1. Hold a particular toy, such as a ball or squeak toy that causes your dog to bark. Give the command BARK or SPEAK.

2. When your dog barks say, GOOD.

3. Give him the toy or food as a reward and praise him.

4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 until your dog understands the command to bark.

5. When your dog understands the command, command him to bark.

6. After three barks say, QUIET or SILENCE or any other word(s) to command him not to bark. Praise and reward him with the toy.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until he understands the command.

8. Instead of using a toy, have someone knock on the door and repeat steps 2 through 7, rewarding him with praise and affection when he succeeds.

When ever your dog starts barking you run out and clap your hands and say "NO BARK". this worked for us. it als helps if you say the dogs name after.

You could also fill 2 cups up w/ rocks and when ever the dog barks you shake them very loud. Dogs hate that sound.

Or you could buy this thing that whenever the dog barks it emits a high pitched noise, and shuts off the noise when the dog stops barking. The noise is so high pitched that humans cant hear it.

But if those don't work and the barking is just driving you crazy then you could buy a shock collar. You can buy them at "petsmart" for about $50.00 . You may not want to leave this on the whole time , only when you let him out.
You may not want to do this because he's a young dog.

It is a hard thing to teach. If your dog now knows it's perimeter then you can change the collar into a Bark collar. It would do they same shock as the electric fence collar and feels the same on the dog. It will also keep in the dogs mind that the feel of this collar is the fence.

I'd say punish him to make him learn that he's doing something you don't like. I'm not saying hit him, but just shout at him or show him you're angry with him. Although, he is just a puppy and naturally boisterous and inquisitive. I've never had a dog that didn't just grow out of the noisy stage.

He is just trying to protect his territory and his family. Our dog does this too. Just trying to tell him "NO" in a very firm voice. Or, if he still hasn't got it through his head, you will have to spank him. Not a thousand times, just once is enough. Remember, puppies can be like children. So you'll have to discipline him like one. A puppy six months old, is like a two year old child. Good Luck!
