Don't give me crap about "best at what?". Keep it simple, the best, most capable, powerful militaries in the world today.

As far as projecting power beyond their borders...UK.

As far as countries I wouldn't want to have to invade, that would include:
North Korea, France, India, Pakistan (nukes)
Japan (1% of GDP spent on military is still a LOT)
Russia (no one ever occupies them)
Israel (fighting against our own weapons)

eh, good ol' British has been on the decline ever since the two world wars and as everyone saw, the british got their *** kicked by Nazis and were on the verge of collapse in ww2 therefore British will definitely be off the list. Er, Russia's military power is definitely good due to the remnants from the former Soviet. And China, yes, it has nukes, nuclear submarines, and stuffs, but no one really knows its real military power(even people in china do not know for sure what "hidden" stuffs are inside their arsenal), as they do not show off around like USA does, and i highly suspect they will only show their true stuffs when needs arise. So therefore, China is on the list too, probably 2nd.

The Russians are still formidable.
Israel-- small but they have US provided hardware.

The EU countries collectively would be pretty tough too. They have some pretty serious hardware.

That's about it. Noboby else has much of anything. But in this day and age the big worry is these militant groups. Its one thing to kick-butt in a "traditional" war. Its quite another to fight a force that is elusive and just keeps hitting you in weak spots. Look at Vietnam-- we had much better weapons and force-- yet they were able to beat us there. Even with moving stuff on bicycles and wagons.

The afghan fighters gave the Ruskies a run for their money and they eventually won too.

Israel
Imagine a country the size of most states being surrounded by your enemies who do not think you should be alive let alone have your own country. You have not been a country for sixty years and you kick your overwhelming enemies but at least three times taking valuable land each time. Scorned by the world and made the scape goats for every bigot. When they get hit by their enemies they do not just fold. A lot of counties could take a lesson from them.

Canada.

We are underfunded and undermanned, but those are things we make up for with training and brains.

One of our greatest strengths is versatility and cross-training. By having a very varied skill set, Canadian soldiers can do more than a single job within their field, as well as operate and maintain their vehicles, weapons and other equipment without having to necessarily fall back towards second-line tech support.

Also, our NCO corps. From basic training we are trained in leadership and put in leadership roles, even as raw recruits and leadership training is integral part of daily life within the Canadian Forces.

I guess you could say Israel because they have some of the best flight combat pilots, but overall they aren't quite as strong as say the US for example.

well for starters i wouldn't consider china on the list of best, they have large number of soldiers, but their equipment is VERY sub-par..but I would say britain, and isreal are among some of the best.
