putting it in the frige overnight will work. If you don't have that much time, but still have a few hours, try putting it (still wrapped in something water tight) in a water bath. Water in a better thermo transmitter then air so it will thaw faster then just leaving it in the air. As a last resort you can use the 'defrost' button on a mircrowave (about 30% power I think) however I've found this will start to cook the edges of the meat.

Either in the refrigerator (take it out of the freezer early the day before you want to use it) or in the microwave on the meat defrost setting. Meat should not be put out to thaw at room temperature because of the chance of bacteria forming. Food poisoning is NOT a fun thing.

The best way to thaw hamburger meat is the fastest way, use the microwave. This is because the longer it is at room temp the more chance it ha to spoil or develop food poisoning. If you put it in the refrigerator in the morning and use it at night, at least it does not get to spoilage temp. Remember meat spoils between 40 and 140 degrees, and the more meat is ground up(hamburger) the more surface aea is available for spoilage, and the more chance it has been contminated.

The best way to thaw any protein is overnight in the frig. This will minimize the chance of bacteria growth and the possibility someone may get sick. If you are using it for chili or similar groung beef recipe, cook it frozen with a little water in the pan, strain it and you can make you recipe.

In the refrigerator so that harmful bacteria doesn't start to grow on the meat. Meat left out on the counter can get E Coli, salmonella, and a lot of other nasty bacteria.

It doesn't matter as long as it's thawed. I recommend using heat.
