get a graphing calculator. practicing on one will help you a lot for Algebra 2, Geometry, Trig, and Calculus (if you go that far). you will need to buy one for classes like Calculus anyway, so you might as well get one now.

almost everyone uses a TI-83. it's been outdated recently, though, by the TI-84, which is also more expensive. those 2 are very similar and everyone knows how to use them in high school.

if you and your parents don't mind spending a lot of money, the TI-84 Plus is about $110 on amazon.com.

the TI-83 Plus is a bit cheaper. it's about $60 used. if you want to save a bit of money, you might as well get this calculator - after all, it's just a calculator ;)

finally, if you don't want to spend all this money just yet, get a TI scientific calculator. since they run on solar, it'll also save you money on batteries :)

nothing fancy here. just go to Wal-Mart or Target or Staples and get a decent-looking TI scientific calculator. if you want to save a few bucks, buy it on amazon.com. the TI34II looks decent.

PS: make sure you buy more than $25 worth of stuff to get free shipping :)

PPS: I used a TI-83 for 6 years - this year I just graduated from high school, so I'll be using it for years to come. it's very very handy :)

TI-83 or TI-84 are good calculators. If you are planning to go beyond Algebra 1, get a graphing calculator, its a better investment.

I would get a scientific calculator. Graphing calculators are much more expensive. Go with a Texas instruments scientific calculator.

You definitely want to get a graphing calculator, particularly if youre taking other math courses.

these can go for over 100 bucks but i guarantee you, unless you lose it, you wont be buying another one for a very, very, very long time.

Texas Instrument calulators are real good. I think they're still around.
