NO ONE hands down>

Carnegie Simpson

“Jesus is not one of the group of world’s great. Talk about Alexander the Great and Charles the Great and Napoleon the Great if you will…Jesus is apart. He is not the Great – He is the only.”

H. G. Wells, British writer, 1866-1946

“I am a historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history.”

The Beatles as stated by Sir Winston O. Boogie -aka- John Lennon.

It was a mis quoted and taken out of context statement by the media (imagine that!) in an interview with Lennon in the mid 60's. He was saying how unfortunate a state of religion that the "...Beatles are more popular than Jesus."

If you're asking about sheer number of people who know about him, I'd consider Siddhartha Buddha as a likely candidate. Buddhism is common in the most populous regions of the world.

now uh...why are all these religious fanatics using this question as an opportunity to talk about how great their belief system is? Try just answering the question, jeez.

A christian historian answers your question in his book,

"My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world's most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular level." [Michael H. Hart, THE 100: A RANKING OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSONS IN HISTORY, New York: Hart Publishing Company, Inc., 1978, p. 33.]

Witch offends me. Harry Potter is fictional. Jesus was/is real. Please do not let that whack job make you think poorly of wiccans. Every religion has insane people in it. We can't help it any more than you can.
I honestly believe this woman is insane.
As for who is more popular than Jesus, No one, but Mary for giving birth, or Judas for betrayal is just as well known.
