I don't think there is a simple answer. The Arab and Islamic world is composed of over 20, mostly undemocratic, nations. These regimes are able to maintain power by supressing freedom internally, and also scapegoating Israel as the cause of all the worlds problems. While Israel definitely needs to give up more of the land it occupired in 1967, the arab and islamic world needs to offer Israel some assurances that their ultimate purpose is not to destroy Israel and drive it into the sea. Israel was able to sign a peace treaty with Egypt in !978 and Jordan in 1999. If the current crisis is resolved, or at leasts fades away over the next few weeks, then there may be renewed opportunities for negotiation. Neither the ISraelis nor the Arabs/Iranians are stupid. They are all shrewd negotiators...and when the time is right.....they all know how to make a deal....Sometimes though....it may take 100 years before the parties are ready to make that deal.....

There will never be peace on earth as long as Muslims are anywhere. This is not about Israel. The Muslims are just using Israel as a scape-goat the exact same way the Nazis did.

Don't believe me? Take a look at today's headlines, and see what the 'peaceful' people of Islam have planned for us (the word 'Islam' means 'submission' by the way."

CAIRO, Egypt - Al-Qaida's No. 2 leader issued a worldwide call Thursday for Muslims to rise up in a holy war until Islam reigns from "Spain to Iraq."

In the message broadcast by Al-Jazeera television, Ayman al-Zawahri, said that "all the world as a battlefield open in front of us."

The Egyptian-born physician said that the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah and Palestinian militants would not be ended with "cease-fires or agreements."

"It is a jihad (holy war) for the sake of God and will last until (our) religion prevails ... from Spain to Iraq," al-Zawahri said. "We will attack everywhere."

Completely eliminate our need for oil. No oil = no burning drive to manipulate the people who live in the middle east. Without us stirring up the hornet's nest, things have to improve.

Classically there was war because of Christian nations' religious agression. That excuse doesn't fly anymore, but the thirst for oil has replaced it. Once that is gone, the situation that is left will be one that has not been seen for thousands of years.

That's not true. Once the Jews and the Muslims can tolerate each other by actually doing what their religion teaches and tolerating others, then there will be not be radical groups like Hezbollah calling for the destruction of Israel, and the Arab states will recognize the state of Israel.

I bet there would be peace in the Middle East if we found an alternate fuel source besides OIL. Or at least we wouldn't care about them at all. Look at Uganda...Rwanda....Somalia.........
