Why is it when you really need something it just becomes so hard and seems like nothing is going to get better

My boyfriend and i just broke up and im going through a lot right now i just need to talk to him. He's the only one that understands me and knows about all of my problems. (Im in debt, collection agencies are calling me, cant afford college, and now ive lost him). Ive tried calling him but he hasnt answered and i know maybe he just needs his space. But he called me yesturday and i wasnt there and i tried calling back but he didnt return my call.
