So many people are posting things that say "you aren't really Christian if you haven't read the Bible cover to cover" but the thing is - THERE IS MORE THAN ONE VERSION OF THE BIBLE!

I own these and have read them: the KJV, NIV, New American Standard and the St. Joseph's (the Roman Catholic Bible).

How many people here can say they have read different VERSIONS of the Bible, INCLUDING the Apocrypha??

With regards to this statement: "it was first written in arabic and so forth then translated in olde english."

Someone doesn't know his history. It was written in Hebrew and Greek and Coptic, then translated to Latin, then vernacular German and so forth.

And with regards to this: "well if you have read all those then did u understand what they said? and r u better now or before u read them? and why brag"

More and more, as I get older, I do understand it better and better. I just wish other people could keep up.

The Bible remains the same from translation to translation. Every once in a while someone decides that the language is too outdated so they update it so that it is easier for people to read. The only real problem that can occur from this is when someone tries to change or omit wording in the translation to support their own beliefs. Also, some use a specific translation and use it to make an arguement, the only way you can really do that is to go back and study the original text.

ok first of all you dont have to read all the verisions of the bible, the different verisons are either broken down so people can understand the bible since it was first written in arabic and so forth then translated in olde english. So theese new verisions help us to get a more bbetter understanding of the bible. But you have to be careful about some verisions of the bible since they can have changed things around. I would recomend either a kjv, niv or an amplified bible since these are the best verisions out

I happen to adore the Douay Rheims version-- it totally rocks. And the one I have has half the page devoted to translation and discussion/interpretation of whats written by several scholars, priests, etc so I really get a lot out of it when I read it. It includes a dictionary and nice ink sketch-styled illustrations...

I happen to ABHOR the KJV- totally slanted and I think its behind the poor mentality of men toward women when really the Bible doesnt advocate it.

It also includes several books that were ELIMINATED in the NKJ translation.
Who has the authority to take stuff OUT and then make millions of people read it, believing thats the whole version?? Remember the last verses-

Apocalypse 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life...

I've read multiple versions of portions--you can actually buy a Bible that has 4 versions running in parallel columns. Some bible groups, particulalry those more intellectually/literarily oriented, will intentionally compare multiple versions.

But I'm not one of the people you talk about above. Anyone who says that is silly, and hasn't read the Bible. I.e., nothing in the Bible itself says that one must have read every word of scripture to be considered Christian. In fact, my recollection says that being a Christian means believing in and submitting to Christ, but I guess I'm too much of a radical revisionist for the people of whom you speak.

A christian doesn't have to read the bible in order to be a christian a christian is merely a person who walks in the footsteps of christ, consider the apostles did they read the bible? or how about the people that they apostles prostilized to? The bible wasn't around for a good number of years after Jesus' death and quite honestly, I think that was the strongest time for christianity.

I think we all interpret the Bible differently therefore we will differ in opinions from here to eternity. Personally I read the KJV but whatever works for you. as long as you are working on becoming a better christian I'm happy for you.

We do not all forget about it. Basically, this verse (and passage) is instructing that if we fairly have religion, we can produce works as a consequence of that religion. Your existence illustrates what you fairly suppose. This textual content, in context, was once written to expound upon Paul's instructing of salvation via religion, which a few had been twisting to intend that you'll be able to are living just like the satan and declare religion in Christ, and nonetheless make it to heaven. James was once now not announcing that you simply ought to do distinct devout works to be stored, however that in case you real suppose, it'll be your want to are living a existence satisfying unto God, which involves serving to the needy out of affection(his instance), taming the tongue, and so forth. We are not able to earn a location in heaven, for even our righteousness is filthy rags earlier than the Holiness of God (Isaiah fifty four), It is most effective religion within the completed paintings of Christ which makes us important to acquire everlasting existence. And if we fairly suppose in a God who loves us sufficient to make some way for us to go into His presence, and a God who will pass judgement on sin, then we can want to are living a existence satisfying unto Him.

Why should a Christian have to read the Bible cover to cover to be one? What matters is your faith. Obviously they might not know much about being Christian.

I haven't read one version cover to cover, I tried to read the King James Version, but all I got was a headache trying to decipher what they are actually saying and a pain in my stomach from laughing when I actually could understand it.
