I hear it is one of the best places to see the sunset. Just wondered if anyone could tell me from first-hand experience.

:)

Polihale Beach on Kauai is an awesome place to see the sunset. It is my favorite beach on the entire island and I would drive from the east side on my days off all the way to the west just to enjoy the whole day there. It was at one point rated the 3rd most beautiful sunset in the world. It is the western most point in the US. Just be sure your car has gas and you have plenty to eat and drink while you are out there as it is a ways to go before you hit town again after leaving the beach. I don't know if they have more towers now but a few years ago cell phones still had no signal out there. If you swim you have to watch the ripe tide too it can get very stong and there is no life guard station there so it is swim at your own risk. It is also known for a clan of three tiger sharks down toward the cliff at the end, and they really enjoy the murky waters so if it has been rough weather you are better off staying in the wade waters. One of my husbands friends bought a jeep while he was stationed there in the Coast Guard and wanted to go drive on the beach so we went out there for a campout. He had no idea what he was doing and drove out of the tracks of the locals that drive the beach all the time and got stuck. The first time we got him out the second the tranny popped out and he was done!! The tide came in and washed it into the sand and that water and force makes it like concrete!! They got someone to pull him out the next morning but the jeep was unfortunatly finished. I think he learned his lesson about driving in the sand, too bad it was the hard way!! One picture I will treasure forever is one of my husband and I while we were dating taken at sunset out there and all we are is silhouettes against a fire sky. Thanks for the memories!!!
