There was a religious revolution years ago, and the catholic church was split into several different denominations, instead of catholic there was the protestant churches, people liked it so much they decided to split again into many different denominations to worship as they saw fit. Not many Christians agree on the bible and what it says, or how to follow it.

"CulturalWiz's" answer is Correct.
"Michelle *'s" answer starts off sounding correct, but veers away from being correct in it's first sentence. I'm sure, however, that this is what they taught her to believe in her Theology classes ...

For you to best understand what you have to choose from, you need Accurate Information that is Totally Unbiased. To that end, I recommend that you read certain chapters of the book:

"Mankind's Search for GOD" (scroll down to 9th listed)
http://www.watchtower.org/publications/publications_available.htm
Chapters 10,11,13,15, & 16 of this bk are about the early histories of Christianity, & Apostate Christianity, the Reformation, & Present-day True Christianity.

On the same Web page, the 2cnd bk listed is excellent too: ''What Does the Bible REALLY Teach?"

You can request copies of these publictions at any Kingdom Hall, or from any of Jehovah's Witnesses.

"Michelle *" states that Jehovah's Witnesses are "rather new on the scene' of denominattions", but in actuality JWs are Not an offshoot of the Catholic church At All! Actually, the Bible Truth we teach goes all the way back to the Creation. We view Abel as the first faithful Jehovah's Witness in history. (Ps 83:18; Is 43:10-12)

"Michelle *" also did not include the origin of the Catholic church as it relates to the death of Jesus' Apostles. It didn't really 'takeoff' until well After all of the Apostles had died! All so-called 'Christian denominations' are offshoots --either directly or indirectly-- from the Catholic church.

"Let no one seduce you in any manner, because it will not come unless the apostasy comes first." (2 Th 2:3)

To find out more quickly about True Christianity, you can also check out what the following Bible-based articles & brochures explain. They are full of Scripture references which are often live-links to those very Scriptures. When such 'refs' are not links, you can use the on-line Bible on the site, or any other Bible of your choice (a link to several > "sources" below).

Here are the articles that answer your question & concerns most directly:

No Catholics are not christistians they are more like a cult, they are told what to do and what to believe and have their own false books to go by like Jehovahs Witness, Mormans Seven Day adventist World Wide Church of God and any other religion closely based on Catholic teaching.

True Christians ar Non-Denominational, Pentecostal, Apostolics, Baptist, Evangelicals, etc.,etc.

Anyway the Pope cant save you or forgive you, neither can a priest, a pastor, Church, religion, baptism, being good or doing good works, mom, dad, family, friends or anything else for that matter. Only faith through Jesus Christ!

Acts 4:10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
Acts 4:11 This is the stone which was set at naught of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

There's only two types of christians.
The False and the Genuine.

Mostly many(Matt.7:13) are in the FALSE CHRISTIANITY! They are not really following (Phil.2:21)Jesus Christ's Steps? They're actually putting down Jesus by saying this or that is done away with or they follow some things of the Bible, but not others things in the Bible. They usually interpet the Bible theirselves (Rom.10:3)without God's intervention.

The Genuine Christians are very few(Matt.7:14) in number that really FOLLOW JESUS(Col.2:6; 1Peter 2:21) and the Apostles(Eph.2:20). They follow (Matt.7:21)and obey (Luke 4:4)every word of the Bible with no hesitation! They hear God's Voice and listen to him(2Peter 1:19-21).

On talking about this; there are a few christians in other folds that don't know(1Cor.3:18-19) about Jesus or his message. Are they christians? Well only time will tell. God will show everyone in due time; most are not ready to accept the faithful teachings while some are ready(1Cor.3:1-3; 2Thess.2:7-12; Eph.4:4)!
As for myself; I was called(2Tim.1:9) out of 2nd Babylon by God into his church (Acts 20:28). God warns all people to come out of the (Rev.18:4)False System Babylon and into his truth!

Because they translate the bible differently. They change words around to support false doctrines. My suggestion to you is not to take any one persons word. Look up scriptures to back up every belief. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and everything I believe is supported by numerous scriptures. Men are too imperfect to trust. Trust in the Bible which is God's word.
Each religion has different beliefs. Catholics believe Jesus is God. I believe God is God Jesus is God's first creation. his only begotten son. Most religions believe in heaven and hell. Heaven is very real and talked about constantly. While Hell is not mentioned once. The dead have no consciousness therefore the soul dies with the body. Many religions believe that the soul goes to heaven. If you would like to study What the Bible really teaches, I would be more than happy to help you.
Prayer will help you make this decision.

it is important to know the theology behind each denomination to help you better decide which one is for you. I would suggest first doing a bit of 'church hopping' to see if you can find a 'home' to worship in.

Basically, in a nutshell, there was originally ONE Christian Church and it got the name Catholic during the time of Constantine because catholic basically means universal. ONE Universal Christian Church. This remained until the 1500's during the time of Martin Luther, who was a Catholic Priest....he began what is now known as the Protestant Reformation. He had some legitimate concerns with what was going on in the church at the time and decided to make his own break-away church. Most mainline Protestant denominations are like that with different founders. LDS and JW's are not usually considered Christian denominations because they do not believe in the Trinity. They are rather new on the scene as far as denominations go.....

The apostles warned that shortly after they were gone, wolves would enter in among the congregation and teach twisted things. The Bible warned that the philosophies of men would be followed by many, and that is what happened.

There is still one way of worshipping properly; they are not all roads leading to the same destination. Remember, the Bible says that the road to destruction is wide, while that leading to salvation is narrow and cramped. Therefore, it is important to search for the religion that is teaching directly from the Bible...the WHOLE Bible, and not picking and choosing only what tickles the ears of the listener.

There is only one example for a person to follow and that is Jesus. Because each person is different there is, therefore, a different type of Christian for everyone that calls himself/herself a Christian. This ought not to be so, but people have a hard time giving up their personal rights and agendas in order to give themselves over to Christ fully. Christians are no different from any other religious belief---all people are the same because we are all made in the image of the same God. There are more than 6.5 billion people on this planet, thus there are 6.5 billion different belief systems and religions. A religion is simply the beliefs that a person holds concerning his/her god and his/her responsibility toward that god. I am a Bible believing Christian, but I have never met another Bible believing Christian that felt the same way about Jesus Christ that I do. I am not THE authority on the Bible or Christ or God---no one person is, and anyone who says that he/she is is a liar. Christianity is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and in that regard you can be individualistic; however, we are all SUPPOSED to believe in the same doctrine, but this does not happen. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the same regardless of what you believe, or regardless of what church you decide to belong to. You cannot believe what you want and still call yourself a Christian. You must believe that Jesus died for you, that he is the Christ the Son of God and that he is in fact God himself. You must believe in the Trinity---the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and you must believe in the work of the Holy Spirit in your life. You must accept the Bible as God's word, and that what God says in the Bible is what he means. Jesus loves you.

There is only ONE type of Christian. The one who believes in the Jesus Christ described in the 66 books of the Bible (Old and New Testament) and has placed their faith and trust in him as Lord and Savior. There are many groups of this one type of Christian who experss this same faith in different ways with some minor differences. There is a saying "In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty but in all things charity". The "essentials" is what makes a person a Christian as opposed to another religion. Therefore Christians must agree on these, i.e. The historical Jesus, the virgin birth, his sinless life, his substitutariony death and atonement, his resurrection and assension into heaven, his return and final consumation, the authority, reliability, inspiritation and inerrancy of the Bible. To not accept these essentials is to become a different "Christian" than described in the Bible. The "liberties" are things such as type of church service, type of music, immersion or sprinkling for baptism, certain prefered practices as opposed to others, ... hope this helps... but all things should be discussed with "charity/love"

In all religons there are sects. Due 2 innovations in religon. But in Christianity there are many sects with different beliefs. This is due to the innovations in christian faith and another main reason is that there are over 70 different versions of the bible. Which all contradict each other. Islam... has only 1 Quraan. Yo should learn more about Islam. Ask me if u want 2 know anything else.
Thx.
