He sounds ok. If you sense he is bored or depressed you could always bring a kitten into his life, as a friend. But otherwise, as long as you love on him, give him some playtime, and he has some window seats to look out of he should be ok. You seem to be a caring owner so just keep looking into things to keep his life interesting...catnip, boxes to hide in and lots of love.

Cats are a lot happier if there is at least one other cat around. It might take a long time before they start liking each other, but he will still be happier even he is just enjoying "hating" the "intruder" you adopt. Pluto was very lonesome as an "only cat" so I adopted Turbo. It took a year before they would even be in the same room at the same time! And they never really played together or seems to much like each other. Yet, when Turbo died last year I thought poor Pluto would grieve himself to death. I had not considered getting another cat, but the vet said it might save Pluto's life. Now, at age 19, Pluto is livelier than he's been for 10 years. He and Francine play together and rub against each other in way I never say him and Turbo do. I'll bet your cat is lot happier with a companion of his own kind too!

Cats are alot more independent than dogs are and can handle long days by themselves. I think your cat is fine with this.

Make sure to buy different toys every week, climbing things, scratch posts. Maybe hide some treats in the house, so that he can enjoy a scavenger hunt while you are gone.
Leave the TV on for him to watch or hear.

Please don't think of giving him up. There are soo many cats that are put down daily because people didn't have time for them. Your cat is in a better place than he ever could be.

Cats are very independent creatures, and don't require the attention that a dog does. He probably loves having the place to himself all day long. If you feel that guilty, you could get him a playmate, but if he is healthy and seems happy, I'd leave well enough alone. Each one of my 3 cats really wishes they were an only cat, so don't mess it up if it's working

Don't worry about it, though be careful to always leave a source of fresh water and maybe some food nearby. I've left my cat alone when I'm at school all the time and he's perfectly fine. Cats are naturally independent, though if you do feel guilty over it, you might want to consider another cat or leaving him at a pet daycare center.

Cats are very independent. I'm sure he's used to being home by himself by now. Just give him lots of loves when you get home. You can always adopt another cat so he'll have some company. Thats what I did. I have a cat around the same age who I left by herself for over a year. A couple of weeks ago I adopted a kitten so she would have a friend. Now they are best buddies!!!

He was ok with it when he was 4 months old. Cats are not like dogs. The love to get petted and get paid attention to but they don't miss you when you are gone. Dogs on the other hand thrive on attention that is why they are called man's best friend. Your cat is completely fine. You could be there or you could not be there either way you cat doesn't care. You shouldn't feel guilty about leaving him alone. He is perfectly capable of taking care of himself.

I did the same thing and still felt guilt like you, so i went out and got him two playmates and now I know he's not lonely. The house is a mess everyday when I get home from the 3 of them playing together. If you just want the one, make sure he has toys and he will be fine alone.

I have the same situation with my 1 1/2 year old male kitty. I think they learn to amuse themselves as long as you give them attention when you're home. It makes them appreciate you all the more!

That being said, I recently decided to bring a little male kitten into the family to give my cat someone to play with during the day :)
