Or is there another reason many Christians think you shouldn't do it?

1 Timothy 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.
Notice it says "a little wine".

1 Corinthians 6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

1 Peter 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

We are admonished to be sober...a drunk is not sober, nor is he of sound mind. A little wine is okay.

Drinking is permitted, although getting drunk crosses the Biblical line. The best example of its permission is this first miracle of Jesus. This page is the first time that I have heard that "wine" could have been completely alcohol-free, but I don't believe that makes perfect sense.

Let's consider this for a moment. Juices ferment in time even when refrigerated. The yeast to begin fermetation lives on the outside of grapes. Lacking refrigeration technology in those days, it was--at best--kept at room temperature, making a great environment for fermentation. Therefore I find it hard to believe that wine more than a few days old back then was absolutely alcohol-free.

I have heard that their wine was considerably less alcoholic than our present standards for wine (something like 20-30 proof today compared to their 10 proof or less I think, although I will gladly admit that I am no expert on wine). The point is: it took much more to get drunk on it than 3 glasses with dinner.

Paul does say to Timothy to "stop drinking only water and use *a little* wine" for his stomach. (1 Tim 5:23) So there is no doubt that drinking wine or alcohol is not absolutely condemned in the Bible.

What is condemned is getting drunk. The best verse for this again comes from Paul in Ephesians 5. "Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life." Enough said.

In the end, I believe that the reason for this is so that people don't drink to the point that they lose control. Moderation is actually healthier for a person than abstinence, and everyone knows how stupid people get when they're drunk.

Many Christians would rather not let that even be a temptation, and I am one of those. I do not drink, because alcoholism runs strong on both sides of my family, so instead of trying to manage the temptation in moderation, I just abstain completely.

I don't have a problem not knowing what I'm missing.

Jesus turned the water in to wine for a particular reason, he was at a Jewish wedding and his friend had run out of wine. Jewish wedding feasts could last for days and it was an embarrassment to the groom and an insult to the guests for the food and wine to run out. Jesus turned the water into wine as an act of compassion for a friend. Now as to your answer, I am a Christian, when I go out to eat on occasion I will have a Margarita, I don't like most wine. If my younger brother who is a Christian and a recovering alcoholic is with me then I have nothing stronger than iced tea or diet coke. Paul speaks to this in the Bible when he talks about eating meat sacrificed in the temple. Anything that you do that is witnessed by a younger, weaker, brother or sister in Christ or by someone who is battling a specific addiction, that may cause that person to stumble is wrong. What you do and how you do it are the key.

why does it matter?, I think your conscience is pretty clear about it , the bible is also ..you should just try to read it carefully.
I just think that it's not fair to use God as a justification for doing the things that you want to do you know?, that's why his name has been so much mistreated..even to justify wars, it's so sad.

I have many parts on the bible wich I probably could use to justify the contrary , but my beliefs about God and all... well, I don't know, sometimes I think that I'm losing faith..or maybe begining to think clearly , who knows, so I'll rather tell you this , wich may be more helpfull:

alcohol makes you dumb, if you drink a glass of wine after eating it's allright ..even helps digestion, but if you go farther your senses become dull, and you end up having no control over your actions...even if you do it just for fun, is it worth it?..besides, is an adiction, why would you do it?, if you really think about it : it's stupid; also it kills your neurons..when one dies then you cannot recover it ..I've heard some friends tell me that it doesn't matter cause we have plenty , but again..what's the point of drinking? .

well, probably you weren't asking about this, probably you wanted to get some religious ideas to get your answer..but the way I see it is that Jesus was always against religion, so let's hope this answer is valid :)

Depends on what wine is. Some translations of wine or new wine is un-fermented juice. Paul did tell Timothy to drink a little wine for his stomach. The Bible says strong drink was for those dieing. The Bible warns leaders not to drink... wine is a mocker.

It's becuase the writers of the bible lived in a time when wine was used in place of water/other drinks at the dinner table. It was common practice (drinking) back in the time of Jesus, since they didn't have a law "drinking and driving a camel" in place.

The bible says drink a little wine fro than often infirmities. Wine is very good for you in small amounts. It is natural and a great sedative. its also great for the stomach and heart.
But on the other hand, just like anything else , in excess it is bad for you and even can kill. The bible does not say do not drink alcoholoic beverages. it just says be not DRUNKEN with wine. Simply because ppl tend to do stupid things when there drunk and can lead to anyhting from, injury , to death, or......unplanned families.lol. Trust me I know

first of all, when he turned water in wine, it was really grape juice remmeber they didnt add anything to the wine, now adays we add alcohol, back in those days wine was basically grape juice. And we should go by our own judgement of which is okay, i mean like dont get so drunk you cant walk, maybe one drink is fine, like a glass of wine which is good for the heart

According to Jesus and Paul, you have the freedom to drink but to not be drunk. You have the freedom to do many things, but if it gets in the way of someone else believing the gospel or causes you to sin, then you should stay away from it.

They all got loaded, from Noah down to Jesus. And if someone tries to tell you it was just non-alcoholic grape juice, they're from some place in Egypt. (Denile, Denial.. get it? Bad puns can be used to make a point :)
