It where free? Meaning you don't have to pay anything but you still have a chance at winning millions of dollars?

Does this sound stupid to anyone? Well, then why is it that athiests choose not to believe in God? Afterall, if they aren't right, what did it cost them? However, if they are wrong, then they get to go to heaven afterall.

Where's the logic in being an Athiest? Seems like most of them are just rebellious children trying to be different and free thinking. I agree that religion is mainly an archaic outdated practice but in the end, something had to put us here. I'm gonna keep taking my free ticket. How bout you?

I don't tithe (or however you spell it). I don't believe in it and think church should be held in an open feild in the middle of the town.

Adopting a system of beliefs isn't free.
As it is, I look at the available evidence and reach a conclusion. I look for more evidence. I listen to arguments made by believers of various viewpoints. I try to reach as honest a conclusion as I can, recognizing that that opinion is tentative and might very well be wrong.
I would have to abandon intellectual honesty in order to profess to be a Christian even though I don't believe it. I would have to actively attempt to change my conclusions from those I've reached rationally to others that I don't believe but that I think have a less than miniscule chance of possibly getting me a reward in a next life that there's no evidence exists.
And if I pick the wrong "free" faith I'll be damned anyway. If I become a Catholic or Episcopalian and God's true faith is Eastern Orthodox or Animism then I'm screwed.
And any god that would approve of such a craven attempt to curry favor wouldn't be worth worshipping.
Sacrificing my rational honesty for such astronomically improbable reasons would be too expensive.

Hmmm, great question. I don't think there is logic in being an atheist other than God is real and He gave us free will. By "free will" we are able to choose...whether we choose to believe in God or not is up to us but only because God gave us that choice in the first place. I suppose that's the logic to being an atheist right there. I personally (being a christian) never understood why people would choose to live a life void of God but in the end, it's not for me to judge. But if I were an atheist, I suppose my life would be so void, dull, and without hope that I wouldn't know any better to take that "free ticket".

By religion, I take it to mean that you are talking about the church---the body of Christ. If you believe that it is outmoded, then you are no better off than the atheist---a rebellious child. You reject the institution that God created so that all Christians would have a chance to fellowship together. Christianity is not a lottery ticket, and to regard it as such is blaspheming the Holy Spirit---the unpardonable sin. Your comparison of Christianity to a free lottery ticket is absurd. Jesus loves you. Repent!

wow, you have no idea what it means to be an atheist. i see this question a lot.

ok, joining a religion DOES cost be something: pride. i could no longer look at myself in the mirror and be happy with what i saw. i would have sold out to fear and peer pressure.

being an atheist is totally different than being a theist, mostly in my way of thinking. i do something because it is right not because someone told me to do so.

i also don't see it as winning the lottery. heaven would be the worst sort of hell for me, to be with a god i loathe among people i can't stand. i'd rather be in hell with john lennon and my best friend. i already consider myself having "won" anyway. i'm alive and living a good life. one where i have the freedom to do what i want.

its not about rebelling, its about living life to its fullest and not worrying about whether god likes me or not. lol.

I'd probably not play the lottery again, even if it were free; compared to the odds of winning, you probably have a better chance of being struck by lightning every day for a month.

I prefer the stock market; there's a 1:1 chance of making money.

its a bit more complicated than that.
The stakes are a bit different... believing and practicing a religion would sure take up a hell of alot more time than playing a free lottery and time is not free. time is a much more precious resource than money, it is limited per person... i can double my cash inflow, but i cant double the time i will be here to do it in.

Based on the Old testament, I have commeted too many sins as well as my forefathers, so I am going to hell anyway.

I'd like to believe the new testament, which means I have a chance, but how then can I judge others and tell them that they are wrong (gays, non "christians"and people who mix their fabics) when they have as much chance as I do as getting into Heaven??

Well if they don't believe then they don't believe...your analogy makes no sense, they are just being true to themselves. It is worse to try to pretend to believe in something you don't just in case. God will know you are just trying to suck up to him. There is no free ticket, God give to who ever it pleases him to give to, he may decide that the atheist is more worthy of the Resurrection than yourself because they lead a life without judgment of others and although misguided were true to them-self and what they believed based on their understanding.

Not even close. I can play the lottery. It is legal and I can exchange cash for tickets.

I cannot believe in an invisible power who is in a book full of contradiction.
