I've only had my cat for a year but it has grown into my family it was my sons favorite. He went to bed everynite with her. She was expecting her first litter any day now. Yesterday I couldn't find her inside so I went outside (she stays inside) I found her hiding and when I got her out she was bleeding out her neck. The vet said a large dog had attacked her she was in shock her babies died and later her being partly brain dead I put her to sleep. I'm so sad and my son who is 3 doesn't understand why is cat is coming home, please help with advice.

Reword this so a 3 year old can understand:

Humans live until they have fulfilled their purpose on earth. Much of that purpose is to learn everything there is to know about loving and giving of oneself unconditionally. It takes humans many many years to do so. Pets already know how to love unconditionally when they are born. Therefore they need less time, to fulfill their purpose on earth. The cat completed her purpose.

The cat wanted to go on protecting your son, but unfortunately she is only a cat. She had only four paws, and a loving heart to get the job done. She did her best.

Afterwards, I think you are going to have to buy another cat, and hope that it bonds to your 3 year old in the same way. If your son plays with the new cat all the time, I am sure it will.

As the mom of a 5 and 3 year old, I think honesty is the best policy. If you are a religious person, it may help to tell your son that your cat has gone to heaven and is living with God. You can also explain that sometimes when animals get hurt badly, the vet helps them so they don't hurt anymore but they also can't come home again. (I'd stress this about animals and not humans or your son may fear he'll be sent away with every skinned knee). He may understand that it's better for the cat he loved not to be in pain, even if that means the cat can't be with him.

My heart goes out to you and your son. Good luck!

First off, I'm sorry to hear about your cat. Secondly, just tell your son that the cat ran away to see his mom and dad (or just make up some silly reason like that). At 3 years old, he'll most likely believe anything and he'll probably forget in a few days anyway.

First of all don't lie to him children always remember when you lie. Our dog dies suddenly when my son was about 3 1/2 I told him he was sick and he died and went to live in Heaven with all the other animals. He didn't understand death but he felt like the dog went somewhere where he wasn't sick. I hope this helps.

P.s. get him another pet it really does help.

I'm really sorry for you. If i could choose between sudden death of seeing for long time your animal dying - i don't know what is better.
You will need time. Time heals all pains on the soul and you will recover once.
The best thing to to now if to occupy yourself with somehing: work, hobby, anything. Just don't sit and think and cry for your beloved pet, this will take more time to heal your soul.
Perhaps the best thing is to get pet again which will soon or later make you happy again.

Im so sorry for your loss. It has got to be hard, but I feel the best thing would be to explain it the best you can in truth. Nobody likes to deal with death, but, it is a part of life. Sadly, age three is not the best time to have to learn about death, but I dont think making up "easy-to-understand" stories are going to be any better for him. 3 is very young but you would be surprised how much kids are able to understand.

I'm so sorry......I have a dog that I've had for 13yrs, and I worry about this day....
In your case, maybe you could get another, and tell your son your last kitty, is on vacation? I think he might be too young to understand death, and another kitty may placate him. Again, I'm sorry.....;-(

has your son expierienced death before? if so then use that as a reference. If not then tell him that the kitty was sick and she couldn't come home becuase she was going to be able to be happy and more, and couldn't have been the same
