The British Government of all flavours has always treated those that work hard and do the right thing very shabbily. They then look after everyone else who have done nothing but scrounge and skive.

Why do firefighters and policemen..Commercial pilots and Boat Captains pay tax. Also why should our leaders pay TAX as they are the heads of the Army.

Soldiering is a very dangerious JOB but it is a JOB that nobody was forced to join.

In a democracy thats worth fighting for we all pay tax. MONEY keeps our country strong.

If one group of people stops paying tax which is possible by the way. Then the other groups will pay more.

Why wouldn't they? Generally speaking people do not spend their entire working life in the military, therefore to fit in with the benefits system it is easiest if they are paid and pay taxes/NI like everyone else - that way when we assess their entitlement to benefits which for everyone else depend on NI contributions etc we don't have to have lots of special rules for former servicemen. The government obviously takes taxation into account when it sets pay rates for the army - they could get exempted from tax and get paid less, but how would that benefit anyone?

American military also pays taxes, and they pay for their health insurance, plus they have to pay for all of there uniforms and everything else in equipment that they are given. The country doesn't give them breaks, they still have to pay Federal Income Taxes and have their income tax forms in by April 15th. Like everyone else in American

I think it is just due to administration reasons and they get it back in their pay or something. Also, they may be the only person earning in a family, so it also covers their family (the NI that is)
