I do not agree with the answer 'to reproduce'. The world seems to be no better a place with 6 billion people in it than 5 billion. We are living because of reproduction. Some people give their lives more meaning than others.

There isn't a WHY, but a HOW.
I don't know how, but an interesting song on the Monty Python film 'The Meaning of Life' is well worth a listen to. And the whole film is worth watching of course.

Aha! Are we REALLY living or merely existing? Are we REALLY real or merely the product of someone's idle imagination - like a dream seen in wakening....? Who Knows?

are we living ?, my theory is that we currently exist in hell ( think of all the misery and suffering in the world) and when we die we are released into another existance to live out another god knows how many years , eternal suffering , everlasting turmoil , no peace ever .......... pass another joint !!!
