YES!! I have a Siamese cat Sarah and she loves to fetch, she also sneaks my hair ties and puts them in her food, if she wants more food. Some cats have problems with balls, try catnip mice, Sarah likes them and also half of a plastic Easter egg or plastic medicine cup like you get when you are in the hospital. Or try the top off a two litter soda.First get your cat to notice you have something in your hand and put it within her reach then pull it back, do this a few times , then throw it and tell her "Get the toy" repeat this several times and she will respond. Then tell her "Good Kitty" and things like how smart she is. I have Sarah on Camera doing this. She got a dollar off my dresser one night and waited until I saw her then she ran with it. A Real Cat Burgular!! Bo kidding!! Let me know how she is coming along. Good Luck and God Bless!!

I have had many cats that fetch and retrieve but I cant say I "trained" them. I think that most cats will bring back a ball if they can carry it. Try bunching up tin foil in a ball and throwing it. It is easy for them to grip with their mouth and carry. Keep throwing it and calling the cat back to you. They usually catch on after a little while.

believe it or not, my grey tabby cat that I recently had to put to sleep played fetch. yeah, I'd throw a ball and he would run and get it and then bring it back to me. but, I didn't teach him that, he just started doing that one day and never stopped. he was such a SMART cat!!!!! I miss Tiger!!!!!!!! I LUVVVVVED HIM SOOOOOOO MUCH AND ALWAYS WILL!!!!!!! on another note, my black cat Blackie, plays fetch with her little toy mice every now and again. she just does this sometimes and again, I never taught her, she just started doing it. I throw it and she runs and fetchs and brings it back to me. but, Tiger did it more often. may I tell you that Tiger was Blackies' brother. so for my cats, it may have run in the family. don't know. my 4 month old male kitty T.J doesn't fetch yet but I'm hoping he'll learn to do it one day when I teach him. he's still young. Good Luck! HIH!!

Yes cats do play fetch, I didn't teach my cat he just started doing it, he really liked aluminum foil balls. The only bad part is when we got home from Germany we were staying at my moms, and well my cat had a toy mouse that looked real, my mom screamed one night after I went to bed, I ran out and she said Lynx had a brought her a mouse, I said yeah it's his toy, well it wasn't, it was real and he placed it right at her feet, he wanted to play fetch. If you want to try, maybe try getting a toy with a string so you can pull it, or even one with cat nip.

Yeah it can be done, but the problem is you have to start when the cat is still a kitten. It's almost impossible once they are older. You can try and get your cat's attention with a treat she really loves and then it's all about repetition. Show her the ball and associate it with the treat. Good luck.

We have trained many of our cats to play fetch. Our recent addition to our home named Lola drops them into our hand once she retrieves the item (most of our other cats drop them near us but we were amazed that Lola drops them in our hand or our lap.) It all depends on the temperament of the cat. We constantly praise our cats when they fetch and bring back the toy. They love the attention from us. We didn't decide to teach them to play fetch though. They kind of started it on their own and we just encouraged them. It really depends on the temperament of the kitty. All of our friends are amazed and sometimes surprised when our kitties drop toys in their laps to start a game.

I've had two cats that did that with paper wads, but bringing it back was something they seemed to figure out on their own. If they did bring it back, they were rewarded by having it thrown (or flicked) again. The one cat was incredible. She had a three foot something vertical leap. She'd find a paper wad and bring it to you to start the game. You'd toss a couch pillow on the floor and she'd crouch behind it in hiding. Then you'd flick the paper and she'd try to catch it in mid air.
Unfortunately, she wound up getting pregnant which really killed her vertical leap.
Both cats were calicos, but I think that's just coincidence.

all the cats i've ever had did that with huge enthusiasm. i don't think you can train them to do that, but they probably will at some point form the connection "bring back toy = more fun". just go on playing with her the way you were, she might start bringing the ball back at some point.

you do no longer. Cat's are above fetch. in the event that they learn this is going to likely be on their own words. yet heavily, the closest i've got seen is cats chase after thrown q-information and sleek issues yet they do no longer deliver them lower back.
