I think the Credit Rating system is flawed and unfair. It penalises you for example for not having your address on the electrol role even though your name is on it. (if you have legitimate reasons for not showing your address) It penalises you for being a good payer!!!. Even though you have paid a bill it stays on file for up to 5 years. I feel aggrieved because I have been penalised when it wasnt even my fault, but my ex partners negligence. I would just like to put my views forward to a monitoring body who may review this outdated system.

Whoa!!! all those who are getting at me for asking for credit I am not!!!. All I was doing was changing a bank account and I asked why I was offered a Solo card which is something they give to teenagers. I have contacted the Credit Agencies one of which is based half a mile from where I live. but they have stupid rules like I mentioned earlier. You dont have to ask for credit to be penalised you know!!!!

Are you saying that lenders check your address on voter's lists? I've never heard of that, that sounds bogus. Why should your voting behavior impact your credit?

What you can typically do is write the credit agencies and ask them to put a statement on your credit report. You can use this statement to explain what happened with your ex-partner.

Beyond that there is no ombudsman. If you seeking a mortgage perhaps you can find a lender who will listen to your story and cut you a break.

No, there is no ombudsman, and if you think logically why would there be.
It is their money and they dont have to give it to anyone they dont want too.
Can you see a court saying 'this company must lend this person money or else'

If there are circumstances to non payment you can ask for a note to be attached to your credit file. This is somthing that you can insist is done. Just contact experian for details.

It's called life love. If you apply for a credit you are putting yourself at the mercy of moneylenders. Now moneylenders are not in the business of throwing their money away, so devise ways of minimising loss. It's their money, it's up to them who they lend it to, as the old saying goes "beggars can't be choosers".
Basically it is up to the lenders - to the best of my knowledge, you can correct any mistakes against your records but you can't influence the final decision - if they don't want to lend you their money!
