i think promise is a pretty name how about a middle? i love naming babies especially when it has meaning. i have three girls and one boy. we named our 1st girl samantha with my middle name, lynn. our 2nd daughter is natasha with her dads middle name allison(ellison). and with our baby girl amanda elizabeth. our son finally! he looked exactly like our 1st daughter samantha, so we named him samuel with joe as his middle name. we picked joe because its his grandfather's, uncle, and auntie's name... they are no longer with us. also we thought of samuel because samantha is our 1st and now that we have our baby boy he's our last... for now.=o)
right now were thinking of having another.. my husband had a dream of us at the hospital while i had our little girl. he said in his dream he named her maranda. thats another thing all our girls have three A's. so i think promise is a beautiful name it depends on you and how you think of the name. a baby is precious and no matther what she will be your " promise" of life. good luck and god bless you and your baby to be.

Well if you wanted it to be original, you just put it out there for anyone to use. I think you should really think hard about what the child will go thru with a name that is so off the wall.

I promise that your child would be tormented. Although unique and original, there is a reason that you don't hear many children with that name... Speaking as someone who grew up with a Unique and original name, do not do that to an innocent child.

Give that name to a pet kitten, and call your baby a normal name. Remember she will not be a child forever, she will some day grow up to be a teacher, a banker, President of the US. Do you really want her to go by her first initial only?

I think it is beautiful!!!
Not only that but unique.. I do agree with some of the peeps though... it may produce name calling but now a days what doesnt? I mean if you here something that was so last week you get picked on... just teach her to defend herself... and you can give her whatever name you wish...after all... your parents named you.. its gonna be your turn someday.. ya know?

Actually, people in Zimbabwe name their children names like Promise, Pride, Lovemore, Loveness, Creed, etc. So, while it doesn't seem common wherever you are, if that kid ever goes to Zimbabwe he/she will fit right in. It's a nice name.
PS A boy can have that name, too.

personally i think it is very pretty and unique. however you may want to think ahead to her school years and think how mean kids are... the teasing that could be derived from that name. ..unfortunately in this day an age that is something that has to be considered when naming children... even if the name is very pretty and unique.
best wishes with whatever happens. :-)

I actually like it. I never thought about naming in that form. My daughter's name is Akayla, I thought it was original and pretty.

I think you need to stop and think about a child with this name and having to carry it around through school (as cruel as kids are) and the rest of their life.
