I was raised strict Catholic growing up. My parents took us kids to confession on Satuday evening, Sunday morning mass as well as mass on all religious holidays and whenever else they felt like it, which was often.

It's totally normal to get bored. It's not your fault. The most important thing according to your faith is to be a good person and love god. If you do that, then I'm sure it doesn't matter that you are counting sheep in your head during church.

We need priests for the mass and the sacraments, but there's not enough of them to go around anymore, so don't expect too much.

Quit waiting for the priest to make your faith come alive, and get busy doing it yourself.

Pray. Study. Evangelize. Repeat.

If you're not busy doing the above three things, it's no wonder you're bored.

Start here: the next time you're at Mass, when the priest elevates the host and begins to say the words of consecration, watch closely.

See if you can notice the Holy Spirit descending from Heaven like a dove, transforming the bread into Christ's body and the wine into Christ's blood.

Then, a little later, just before the great Amen, listen very carefully to the words of the Eucharistic prayer.

Keep watching and listening closely at every Mass. Eventually, you'll become aware of the amazing stuff that's happening there, and you'll never be bored again, no matter which priest is presiding.

Send me your address and I'll send you the latest Catholic Resource CD. It will change the way you view your faith. Then you won't have to look to anyone else (other than God) for true spiritual fulfillment.

Peace!

Try visiting a church that isn't so steeped in "scripts," and ceremonies. The church body--the people---are the church, not the building, not the ceremonies, not the scripts, not the constant repetition of poems and learned lines that a priest recites time after time after time.

I bet you would like a church where God is put first, before the ceremonies and the scripts. A church that praises Jesus Christ and teaches the Bible, instead of one that doesn't really encourage you to read the Word of God.

I bet you would love church if you could see how worship can be when it's not coming from a script.

It's natural to not to want to go to church. We all get lazy, and no, God will not be mad. He loves you no matter what. You just need to ask God to guide you, but in the process try not to quit going to Mass.

Maybe your parish has other Mass times. I know at my church we have several different Masses throughout Sunday, and two Saturday evening. They are all geared to the different crowds, which is important, because people need to be able to relate to understand what is being said in a lot of cases. There is one for the more traditional (which I call the senior Mass), there is one for the children, and one for the young adult. There is more charisma, and contemporary christian music for the younger crowd, and the homilies are geared towards the younger crowd. You may need to find another parish if your parish is stuck in the dark ages. May the Lord be with you.

God would not be mad, and I agree on many levels. Priests are humans, often uninspired just like the rest of us. I'm pretty fortunate, in that I have a great priest. He's excited and in love with his faith, and shares that excitement with the rest of us. I've been at parishes that are not so lucky, though.

As far as going to mass, though, I'm not going to hear the priest talk, though that's a bonus if he's good. I'm going for the sacrament...the body & blood. It's so powerful to think about, it makes me cry after I receive.

I love going to church. I guess I have just been luckier with the priests that have been assigned to my parish than you.

I also believe you only get out of church what you put into it. If you are fully participating in Mass and not being spiritually fed in return then I don't think "God would be mad."

Have you considered:
- Speaking to the priest about your feelings?
- Joining the Liturgy Commitee and try to make things better?
- Going to a neighboring parish?

With love in Christ.

Well, you certainly shouldn't leave for another Church just because the one you go to is boring. This would be equal to shopping for truth that suits you, rather than accepting truth for what it is.

The Priest may be boring, but your venial sins are still forgiven every Mass. Scripture is read every Mass. Jesus Christ is present and offered to us every Mass.

The boring priest is worth the countless blessings you receive (and probably take for granted) each and every Mass.

God would only be mad at you if you remained complacent and stopped coming to visit Him because you are too lazy to find out what is happening during a Mass.
God Bless

I understand your dilemma. When I was young, I was so tired of the Catholic Church (12 years of Catholic schools) that I gave up completely on going to Mass. I still stop in at our Church and pray, I'm active in the parish. I just can't handle the Priests going on and on about things that are irrelevant to me, my family and my life.

I may be wrong, but you are either a teenager or young adult, most likely a teenager.
If so, just give it a few more years and you will be mature enough to truly understand and appreciate your faith, it just might not seem like it now.
I used to think like you, and don't worry, it's not a sin until you stop going to church.
All you have to remember is that church (Mass, if you're Catholic) isn't supposed to be fun or exciting.
It's like what JFK said to Americans in his inaugural address (or maybe State of the Union), only applied to church: ask not what your church can do for you, but what you can do for your church.

As I see it, worry isn't always anything dangerous. Fear is helping us to look after ourselves. e.g. We are extra wary once we are misplaced within the woods out of worry for the unknown animals... and so on. Therefore, I consider that there will have to be an quantity of worry toward God and hellfire in order that we're obedient and reverence God for who He is and we hold ourselves clear of sins. I imply I can not suppose that at some point humans could have wholly no worry of God and begin stepping on God's head. I can not suppose if at some point humans will begin to be impolite and wholly forget about approximately the ones round them. That's worst than hate considering the fact that a minimum of it takes acknowledgment of a individual's life to hate. But when you have been to wholly forget about, that signifies that individual do not even exist and does no longer have any importance. I am very definite that every body so long as they're human, they recognise what love quite is regardless whether or not they're christian, catholics or any faith. And I wager considering the fact that of this, the Catholic believes that even people who have no longer identified Christ of their lifetime however via their possess means check out their great to like as they know the way, then it's as much as God whether or not or to not devote them into the dominion of heaven. So, I wholly accept as true with you that something that's performed out of affection for God is quite a groovy factor.
